Anyone work for Apple

Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone here is working for Apple? I have a job at the moment with them and am finding I’m struggling a bit with the chat client (Avalon), that Service, and sales agents use for the online store. Tab doesn’t work consistently, window spots when set don’t save. I’m setting them to allow me to quickly jump into the info section that gives customers details such as country, IP, referring page, and then back to the chat transcript and to the edit field. I notice VO gets stuck in the timer occasionally, or stuck in the HTML chat window, stopping interacting doesn’t get me out, I just have to quit and re-load VO. My current role is an online sales agent for the online store and there’s lots of KPIs, Quality, and compliance that I need to hit. I’m doing it but there’s allot to be desired about the chat software’s accessibility. I’m finding that I am getting frustrated and am just mentally done in because I’m hitting so many keystrokes to get the simplest feedback that my colleagues can just glance at and it could be so much better. FYI, I’m using El Capitan and because VO is baked into the OS I’m being allowed to set up a test machine with Sierra to see if Window Spots is fixed yet or not. It’s a funny position because while I am employed by another company I am contracted to Apple so I don’t have direct contact with Apple or I’d be trying to speak to the Developers Managers. I’ve sent a detailed email outlining my frustrations to my Manager along with suggestions for improvement and they are taking it on-board but would like us to explore what we can before going to Apple. If anyone works in Apple in general, or in the accessibility team, or even has contacts in the Avalon team or any general Mac OS and VO suggestions of things I can do better it would be really appreciated. I’m liking the job as it’s a break from IT Support roles, but still let’s me play with and talk about cool new consumer and professional software, hardware and accessories. Plus I’m in a good team and have a decent Manager. If I can iron out some of the bugs it could be so much better and not as mentally draining. I’m also hoping that this job may lead down the line to roles I can apply for directly within Apple, perhaps in AppleCare for example. Cheers, Barry.

Confluence accessibility.

Hello, Im a tad stuck with Confluence from Atlassian. Different screen readers give me access to certain bits but not everything at once. · Nerrator with Edge is the most responsive when moving through menus etc. However It cant read any of the browse dialogues. It however will work with the drop down lists in the editor. · NVDA doesn't get stuck in the main edit area as much as other screen readers. · Jaws doesn't read the drop down menus in the editor but with the touch screen I can find the items. I just cant execute them. Also, I can read the items ... just about with a lot of trial and error in the browse dialogues but I cant activate them. · Voiceover on IOS does a reasonable job but the Confluence site doesn't support IOS so the problems aren't down the Voiceover. I've spent a lot of time trying to find ways around this so I'm throwing it out here. Have any of you used Confluence and if so, how do you access these browse pages? Nerrator calls them groups. The browse pages are used for browsing for files, templates, macros, links and even people so they are a vital component of the interface. Hyper-V an update and questions.

Hello, I've given Hyper-V another serious try over the past day or so. I need feedback from others though as my testing has only gotten me so far. Findings: 1. Audio latency is reasonable. Not great but it will do. Note I only gave the machine 4GB of RAM and one processor so I may be unfair. It is going through a high end sound card though. 2. Enhanced session mode seems to be very workable. Control alt and left moves focus away from the guest consistently and control alt break takes you out of full screen mode. 3. The hardware and Hyper-V host settings are accessible. No problems there at all. 4. Capslock seems to be passed through to the guest all the time. This is really irritating. I wonder is there anything our friends in Microsoft can do about this? I prefer the laptop keyboard layout in screen readers because I keep my hands on the home keys all the time. I find it much more efficient. 5. One critical issue I'm encountering is I cannot get the hardware authorization dongle to work. I also cant activate Jaws. I think this is because the hardware ID is dynamic and the ILM authorization manager doesn't like it. 6. Again, another critical issue is that because the enhanced session uses elements of RDP, Jaws thinks that it is in an RDP session but it cant communicate with the locally running instance of Jaws to get it's authorization from. Therefore 40 minute mode is never available. When Jaws starts, it prompts for authorization. When authorization fails or I close the window, Jaws always shows a message saying that this copy of jaws is not authorized to run in a terminal services session. Here's my intended use case. I have hoped for this for years and in some ways, I can do this with VMware workstation but it's not quite what I want. InstallHyper-V 2016 server. I've two really powerful machines here so I have no shortage of computing resources to easily run what I need locally. I'll then run the various desktops and servers that I need on these machines. The idea is that I should never need to run an application on the host. If I'm testing something,I can create a temporary VM from a template and trash it when I'm done. I also have a few clients where it is not a good idea to connect to their network on a machine that I have not dedicated to their tasks. I generally have these starting and connecting to interfaces on my firewall that provide a VPN connection. With Hyper-V server , I'll get more performance from the guests compared to VMWare workstation as there will be less running on the host. I know that Jaws will install onto hyper-V server. I had to do this a few months ago. I don't want to use RDP authorization for Jaws on my local virtual machines because often I need to use RDP to access remote servers. Have any of you had any success or do you have any additional findings? Thanks Darragh

Supporting sighted people

Hi all, I'll be supporting a sighted intern in December. At least that was what I thought would be happening until earlier today when I was told that he'd be starting on Monday. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can pear on things? He'll be using a Mac so VoiceOver is an option but I'd rather not as I want to be as unobtrusive as possible. The work is going to be typical devops stuff so a bit of programming and a bit of admin mainly over SSH. We make heavy use of GitHub for the programming side of things so I think I'll get him to work more or less independently then submit a pull request at which point we can discuss the code but I'm completely stumped about the admin side of things.
