Ubiquiti and/or PFSense access

Hi all, I have a new flat and with it comes a 1GBPs Ethernet connection as part of the building service. The router they have given me is causing me a lot of issues so I want to upgrade it. I have been looking at different models and I have discount a lot due to the 1GBPs connection. I have a Sophos router from a previous job, but it doesn't support IPV6. At this point I am looking at potentially going with a Synology router, the Unifi kit or a PFSense build. has anyone used any of this and can comment on the usability with JFW? i know the Synology will be pritty much the same as the NAS, though they don't have a demo site for the router. I am going to check out the Ubiquiti demo site next but I know people on this list were using it. Thanks. Andrew.

Trend Micro Apex One inaccessible after the last update?

Hi all, Is anyone over here also using Trend Micro Apex One? Yesterday we updated Apex One to its latest version. It seems they made the interface inaccessible. They still use the old Internet Explorer component to display most parts of their GUI but it seems its not focusable anymore using NVDA 2020.2. Object navigation just shows empty windows. Call for testing: vast performance and stability improvements in command consoles for NVDA users

Hi blind-sysadmins, Microsoft has been doing a lot of really great work on UI Automation (UIA) in Windows Console (command prompt, PowerShell, and the Windows Subsystem for Linux). UIA vastly improves performance and stability in console, but some issues prevented it from becoming default in NVDA 2019.3. Many of the bugs in UIA have been fixed, and I'm hoping it'll be good enough to be default for the Windows 10 21H1 update to be released in the first half of 2021! However, it's important that all serious bugs are resolved before UIA becomes the default. The deadline for fixes to make it into the next Windows update is 30 October 2020. I'd really appreciate it if people tested this build <https://codeofdusk.com/conhost20200928.zip> (extract the zip and run OpenConsole.exe) of the Windows Console with "use UI Automation to access Windows Console" enabled in NVDA's advanced settings and reported any issues to me. Alternatively, you can file issues on the microsoft/terminal GitHub repo (which also is used for Windows Console). If you file issues with Microsoft, please provide a test case for them to run in the NVDA Python console (see this issue <https://github.com/microsoft/terminal/issues/7742> as an example) and CC @carlos-zamora. If you need help generating a test case, please let me know. To aid in testing, you can replace the Windows default console with OpenConsole. Change the owner of %systemroot%\system32\conhost.exe to yourself (in security properties), then grant you or the administrators group full control of the file. Rename conhost.exe to conhost.exe.orig, paste in OpenConsole.exe into the folder, and rename it to conhost.exe. If you've done it correctly, running nav.is21H1Plus in the Python console (NVDA+control+z) started from cmd should return True! To switch back to your original console, just rename conhost.exe to something else, and rename conhost.exe.orig back to conhost.exe. Thanks, Bill

Virtualbox tip

I just discovered that gocr works a lot better than tesseract at recognizing text in a Virtualbox screen capture. If you're running a Virtualbox virtual machine, there's a command to take a screen cap. That generates a png file. You can run gocr on that to see what the screen on the virtual machine says. Endpoint configuration manager

Hi all, I've recently been given access to our configuration manager console, in preparation for some training on managing and updating apps e.g. adobe reader etc. Does anyone have any tips on using it successfully with a screenreader? I use JFW 2020 primarily, however I also have NVDA installed. My main issue seems to be reliably accessing the ribbon, and that I can't seem to read the list of device collections a device is a part of. Cheers, Kieran. remote support

Hi all, Part of my job requires me to remotely access machines to provide support. The only solution I'm finding is to install the jaws demo on all of the computers on the network, and purchase the remote access addon for my license. Is that the best option? If so is there a good way to deploy jaws to all of the machines? Ideally we would not even want the users to know that jaws is installed so they do not accidentally activate it. Thank you, Mike

VMware: Which virtual machine is on which host?

I have been a backup VMWare admin for a few years. Actually, I'm third in line so maybe I'm the backup of a backup. Anyway, I've been tasked with shutting down our VMWare cluster. We're moving some virtual machines to a centralized VMWare cluster on campus. But others we are just going to recreate on the hosts we are currently using for our VMWare cluster. We have 4 hosts in our cluster. I need to shift some VMs around so I can take a host out of the cluster. Then I am going to install Linux on the host and recreate the virtual machine on the new Linux host. The goal would be to get to just one host with one virtual machine, the vcenter server. At that point we could just turn it off. I know how to migrate a VM to another host but what I don't know is how to figure out where to move it. Is there a way to show which VMs are running on which host in the VSphere client? Can I get a report of how burdened a host is? How to install CentOS on VMware ESXI?

Hello, I used Proxmox until today and now moving to esxi host. How can I install a CentOS7 to VM? VM is created but how can I answer CentoS installation questions like license agreement, network, partitioning etc? I've created an answer file for Proxmox in the past but it is not working for VMware. Thanks for your recommendations.

Hi Caroline: I have seen this before, but there could be several causes. A few things to think about: 1. Is the Skype for Business server on prem or in O365? 2. What is the connection like between the client machine in question and the server? 3. If the user goes ahead and IMs or calls one of these presents unknown contacts, does the IM or call go through normally? 4. Does the Skype Outlook addin show the correct presents information when the user tries to email the person or in the user’s Outlook contacts folder? 5. Are these contacts in the same domain or is there federation going on? Generally when I see this it means that there’s either a lag between the client machine updating the presents status from the SFB server or there’s a problem with federation between two orgs in an onprem situation. As I said though there could be several causes here so these are just some things to think about when starting to look and you may have already ruled these all out. We have tried the following for a user who is being presented with the presence unknown problem: Copying over a cached address book to the affected machine by replacing the GALContacts files in C:\users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync\sip_<user>; Removing all the files from the sip_<user> folder and allowing Skype to re-create them; Removing any contacts from the user's Skype favourites list for people who are being reported as presence unknown; Removing any contacts from the user's mailbox for people who are being reported as presence unknown. None of the above has solved the problem. Has anyone experienced this before, and if so, do you have any suggestions about what we can try next?
