Do any of you happen to know of a MySQL interface that works in high contrast mode such as windows colors? I've tried MySQL workbench and MyDB Studio and they suck! More and more of the applications are stuck in a color scheme mae by the developer and it gets quite annoying. Thanks in advance. Also, I don't want to use PHPmyAdmin. Sound card drivers not reloading

Hi all, I have an interesting problem that I have not run across before. I am trying to get audio (sound) output from our Dell PE 840 running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise. I have tried a myriad of USB sound cards all with the same result. If I plug in a sound card that I have never used before into the Dell it will start working and I can get Narrator to work fine. Now if I reboot the computer and try that same USB sound card it won't work again and never will. This is the same results as with all sound cards I have tried. I have heard something about Win 2k8 not allow the loading of non signed drivers at boot up. Is this true and how can it be fixed? If not does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do to make this work? I am really pulling my hair out on this one. Tia Frank

Hello, Is anyone using hotmail with jaws 11? If so, i've got a jaws friend who is having extreme difficulties getting hotmail's new UI to work right. It's heavily framed and on occation kicks her out when doing a bulk delete. I was wondering if there's a way to revert the latest hotmail update and return to a more speech friendly UI? Thanks. I'm trying to set up a DELL PowerEdge server to install in a braille library in Africa, and I seem to be hitting one issue after another. While the Server part seems to be OK, Exchange is proving to be a real pain in the whatnot. For example after running the Exchange Best Practices Analyser, it told me that I had an "unrecognised Exchange signature". In aditition, make sure VMWare Tools are up to date, you can check this from the virtual machine menu in Workstation. Also, in adition to the audio service being started and set to automatic, with the VM powered down make sure there is, in fact, a virtual sound card added and connected under virtual machine settings. What version of Workstation are you running? The latest is 7.1.2. Hello, Does anyone have any free AV recommendations? I posted on this last week and got suggestions that were out of my range. I've tried Avast5, and the only reason it's still on is because i don't have anything else. I am not impressed with it, it's interface is in my opinion a step backward, it doesn't have any of the features 4 did, and system stability has taken a major nose dive since I installed it. Thanks. Free Digital Email Certificate

Hello, I just reinstalled a box that was using a Thawte free email digital certificate to secure email communications. That service is now gone and the key is about to expire. I'd like to know if there are any alternatives that people are using? I'd like for maximum client compatibility preferably without having to manually install the company's intermediate cert? Thanks. Is VMWare lab manager accessible?

The subject says it all. I'd like to use VMWare lab manager instead of VMWare workstation for some of my virtual machines to make sharing them easier, as well as having the backups automated by our corporate IT department. Is lab manager accessible with Jaws or any other screen reading software?

David I've taken several classes from them and haven't had a problem. Just like any other classroom setting, you need to communcate your needs to the instructor, and most will be willing to help. Each office is different in how their lab setups work, so I can't tell you what to expect. Just do your homework, know your screen reader and perhaps have a quick play with the UI for what yu're learning and go for it. Win 7; installing drivers with no audio

Hey all. I've just done a windows 7 professional install and the audio drivers haven't been found. A sighted person walked me through the mini setup where you choos the computer name and set up a user account, but they couldn't stay long enough to install any drivers. On xp, this is easy enough since you can just type the full path in run and more or less keep on hitting enter until you here sounds or your machine reboots. However, I'm guessing that uac is going to thro a spanner in the works here since I'm pretty sure that the default option on the uac window isn't going to be yes. To be honest, I'm not even sure I'm in run after pressing windows + r; I typed some random letters to try and make a beep sound which didn't work; I also tried to go into cmd and type control g which is also meant to generate a beep but both these tests failed. Having said this, I was able to type the shutdown command in what I thought was the run box and it shut down, so perhaps things aren't as bad as they seem. Does anyone have any experience installing drivers in this situation? Since you're meant to install chipset before audio I'd be looking at 1 install with no feedback plus half of another one, assuming that sound starts to work half way through the install as it does with some xp drivers. I'm just stabbing in the dark here, but if I assume that ethernet has been found, would I be able to put this on my network and use psexec to install the drivers that way? This didn't work in xp since the admin shares aren't enabled by default, but perhaps it's different for 7? Any thoughts what so ever are welcome. Cheers, Ben.

Hello all, I cannot get this server to communicate with my home network. ipconfig /renew returns a message saying "The operation failed as no adapter is in a state permissible for this operation". The device is flagged as "Working properly". Some guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance, Stewart.

Off the top of my head, are you sure that you've used the right drivers? I've had some cards that have installed with a driverpacks.net modded os install, but infact, the driver hasn't always been the best for the device and in some situations it hasn't functioned at all. Failing that, perhaps it would be easier to just stick a pci eth card in there? IMac Help

Hello, Do we have any Mac users on this list? Specifically an IMac running OS 10.x and that's all I know. I know it comes with Voice over, but it's not got sound, not sure why, and not hooking up to the internet. I believe from what little i've gathered that it was hooked up to a dialup connection. I need to get sound, voice over, and internet, and I know nothing about Macs, just pc's. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Dave.

This is a frequently asked question on linux lists. It usually generates quite a bit of debate because the military doesn't usually tell people what they can do so you can only speculate on what it would take to destroy the data so that even the military can't recover it. Certainly, if you destroy the platter physically by doing something like hitting it with a hammer, that should do it. But most people believe that just wiping the disk a dozen or so times will do it. You can do that with the dd command lie this: Dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/sda Thats if your disk is a sata drive. For IDE drives, the command would be: Dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/had Those commands write random digits over the entire drive, wiping out the boot sector, partition table, and all data. Hi, Is it possible to take a wireless WiFi connection under windows XP Pro and share it with the included ethernet port? Never done this on windows. Any ideas how to set up a nat type thing? Thanks Scott

Accessibility of desktop virtualisation (VDI)

Hi, Just wondered if anyone has come across desktop virtualisation? This is where the client logs on using RDP (through a thin client), and once they enter in their username and password, they are given their own desktop image, which is manipulated through the thin client. Products which currently are doing this include Vmware Ace - http://www.vmware.com/products/ace and Citrix Xen Desktop http://www.citrix.com/xendesktop4 These products are replacing the traditional terminal services/Citrix Presentation server model for regular thin client users in for example call centres and secure environments. I was looking at these products last week at a reference site, and so far as I can tell, we lose the virtual channel between the remote desktop and the machine, because the RDP connection is going through the virtual desktop server, which gives the user access to the correct image. There seems to be strong sound support however, so we could get at the system that way. There are also agents that can be deployed on the machine connecting to the desktop server, that facilitates higher graphics support and other features.
