Hello, This one is for webmasters or those who administer web servers. I'm looking for a robots.txt file or perhaps entries to add to an httpd.conf or .htaccess file to block or keep out bad spiders, crawlers that proliferate spam, or any type of marketing thingy, anything other than a search engine. Folks, This is on behalf of a good friend, who's been thrown in at the deep end. I've no current experience in Exchange, other than high-level sys admin account management. Any suggestions? Hi B, So basically i have like 16 mailboxes that have been exported from exchange2003 using exmerge. i currently have them all stored on a hard drive as .pst files but i need them imported into exchange 2007. Problem is i dont think i can use the powershell cos i am using the 64bit OS - exmerge dosent want to run at all on exchange 2007. There are also quite alot of custom folders etc within the .pst's as well. Hi, I'm looking for 100 megabits of transit (preferably over Metro E) in the San Francisco SOMA area if anyone is interested in selling it to me. Question about using JFW with putty

Hi, so here's the issue. I use putty as an SSH client. In order for me to hear the output I have to do an insert s to speak all. This works but when the screen fills it rereads the entire screen over and over again for each new line added. What's up with that? Secure CRT has a script written that gets around this. What can I do to use putty or is there a better (preferably free) client to use that's more jaws friendly? Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks Scott

Hi: There's a chance I might be taking over my company's System Center Configuration Manager implementation in the next few months, and was wondering if anyone's used it and can speak from the standpoint of accessibility how usable it is. I presume its just a bunch of MMCs so it shouldn't be a problem but it never hurts to check. Also, as someone who'se never touched SCCM before and only knows in general what it does, any good online training and documentation resources out there? Thanks. Ryan

Hi Dave, Yes move the second network onto the 192.168.2.x subnet, then that will give room for ICS to use 192.168.0.x. As far as I remember, that IP range in ICS is no negociable. Ad-hoc wifi means setting up wifi using two wifi cards, unlike the system that uses access points. I only did it once and it took ages, I had to use the wifi client by the nic manufacturer and not the builtin one in Windows. anyone running a postfix mail server or a web server outside the U.S.?

Hello, I've got two questions on different servers. The simple one first, does anyone have a web server outside the U.S. I could host on? I'm going through a legal issue, one that will impact all blind individuals negatively if i am not successful, and I need to raise awareness of it. To do this i have chosen to do internet hosting. I'm aware that the U.S. government can under certain circumstances via a court order force a hosting provider to remove a site, I'm expecting this, therefor i want to host on a server outside the U.S. This will not be for anything illegal, I want to ensure the voice on my issue can not be silenced. I will do all the work, I just need server space. Second question, is anyone running a postfix email server? If so, what antispam measures are you utilizing? I'm trying to get postfix, amavisd-new, spamassassin, clamav, and postgrey to play together on a Centos machine. For the most part i have it, although i keep getting mails addressed to mailman.$mydomain which i am not sure of. I want to tighten up my spamassassin configuration and have questions on the rules files, updating them and increasing or decreasing scores. Thanks. Dave.

does anyone else hate the trend to web GUIs in network equipment?

I'm a little disturbed by a trend in network hardware where everything has to have a web front end to configure. Even gear like the Cisco ASA has this totally inaccessible java based ASDM thingy that sucks on a whole new level. (even to sited users) What's happening to the command line? It's so much better and more efficient for working with network elements and frankly for servers. Everyone tell your Cisco reps that this is a bad thing. (tm)

Backup emails in real time

Hi, I was asked to save all the email messages sent from my employer's SMTP server and all the messages received on its POP3 server automaticly. Do you know if this is possible? We use Postfix. Are there any hooks we can attach handlers to them in the POP3/SMTP servers or are there any configuration settings we can choose for sending the sent/received messages to an email address, or to a file on the hard disk? backing up a partition via the internet

Hello, I've got a remote server, Linux, that i have to redo. My hosting provider makes the redo easy, as they have images you can select, operating system version and dependingo on what you pick is what you get. My problem is it'll kill my current data. I've got to back up the / partition from this server to a local server here, then redo the remote machine, then reload the data. Has anyone done partition backups over the net? Thanks. Dave.

linux directory backup with symlinks

Hello, I've got a directory a du -sh on it shows it's 330 mb in size. This is on a centos 5.3 box. It has directories, regular files and symlinks in it. This shows what happens when i'm working late, brain goes to mush. I want to back it all up symlinks and all making an exact copy for archival purposes. I've tried some tar commands -cpf and -chpf but those gave me different archive sizes, when i uncompressed the folder it was larger or smaller than the original and not by a little bit either there was a 5 mb difference in one case, a 35 mb in another, i'm assuming the symlinks are the snagpoint, and that tar is creating hard links. I thought about rsync but didn't think it archived, pax i don't know. Suggestions welcome. Thanks. Dave.

Vmware workstation 6.5

Hello, Is anyone using vmware workstation 6.5 with jfw? I was running vmware server on an xp pro machine with vm's inside that, and jfw scripts on the host, now i'm having to switch to workstation 6.5. My first question is are any scripts or other configuration files needed for workstation? Second issue, when i installed a vm on first boot of the vm after the operating system was installed workstation went right in to the vm, i didn't have to hit control g or anything. This was not wanted and getting out with control+alt didn't work, mouse moving trial and error finally got me out. I do have additional questions about specific vm's, but they can wait until i can sort out the basics, any help appreciated. Thanks. Dave.

Hi all: Quite a few of the machines at work, higher end Dell Precisions, need a 3RD party SCSI driver to see any hard drives during an XP install. During a normal interactive install, the user is prompted to press a certain function key, I believe F6, at the very beginning of the install if such drivers are necessary. They then insert a floppy with the drivers on it and the install proceeds normally. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how this was done with an unattended install? With Vista this issue never comes up, but XP doesn't seem to have as many drivers built into the CD as Vista does. Loading the drivers onto the same disk as the unattended file doesn't seem to work, so was wondering if there was an easy way to work around this? Thanks. Ryan

cloning a hard disk

Hello, I've got a machine that's got a hd in it that's running out of space. I've attached a second drive to it and want to clone the disk from smaller to bigger adjusting for file size. I do not have my old copy of ghost 5.1 floppy, or 7.5 for network disks, btw if anyone does i'd appreciate that, and am looking for something that's a drop in, boot up, enter a few commands and it's off and cloning. I notice general system administration questions get asked on this list as well as ones relating directly to accessibility. I've used the site http://www.serverfault.com for general system administration questions and had good luck. To summerize it's a site where people ask and answer questions, and the answers get voted up and down based on the judgement of everyone viewing the questions. I've found that there are simply more eyeballs on the site then on email lists so am more likely to get a good answer quickly unless it's something very nitch like installing Jaws on windows 2008.

fedora preupgrade-cli

Anybody know how to use the fedora preupgrade-cli script? I ran it to upgrade a system from fedora 9 to 10. After downloading 900Mb of files, it said "Upgrade will begin after you reboot". So I rebooted. But now I cannot ssh into the machine. It seems to me that the preupgrade-cli program shouldn't require you to have console access. Else how do you remotely upgrade a fedora machine?
