I wonder if some kind soul can advise here please? With Microsoft Action Pack, you only get one Server 2016 Standard license, which we have installed as a Domain Controller. Action Pack also comes with Exchange Server 2016. You are advised against running Exchange 2016 on a DC, but purchasing a second server with Server 2016 for 2-3 users is overkill and expensive. It has been suggested that we install a Virtual Server on the DC to run Exchange, but the question we are having difficulty getting an answer to, is whether or not it is both possible and legal to use the same Server License on the same hardware? Has anyone got a definitive answer? George

PCI DSS validation

Hi Listers, I am looking for a PCI DSS validation and scanning service somewhat accessible. We have previously used, Trustwave to scan our networks and found out that the service is horrible, all based on flash, won't work with NVDA, won't work with JAWS, just totally inaccessible. I don't even know yet if our merchant will allow us to use different provider for PCI DSS validation. I am looking for alternatives. We are SMB so some of the enterprise providers might not be well suited or affordable for us. I apologize if this is something not sys admin related, I do have to manage it. Any suggestions or experiences are welcome. Anatoliy

LAN Speeds

Hi All >> I have a network with gigabit equipment and cabling installed across the entire infrastructure and I am using 2 win 10 pro Dell laptops to transfer files from 1 PC to the other. These laptops both have gigabit NICs installed and are wired into the network. >> The thing is, I am only getting about 10 to 15 mbps transfer speeds. Outbound SMTP from Microsoft Outlook for Mac

This is mildly interesting: I have a Postfix server configured to offer SASL on port 587. Dovecot is providing the SASL support. Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac fails to send messages out via my server, reporting that it doesn't support any of the available authentication methods. Meanwhile, Microsoft Outlook for Windows can send messages via the server without any difficulties. I've played with configuration settings, but with no luck. If I try to enable logging on Outlook for Mac, various operations (including, crucially, creating a new message) become unavailable, and it never seems to finish reading the inbox. Without logging enabled, it's able to read IMAP folders fine. This doesn't really matter - I have plenty of other ways of sending mail, even when using the Mac, but if anyone here has clues about the mystery, I would be interested. It's worth noting that Outlook 2016 for Mac works reasonably well with VoiceOver. Unfortunately, it doesn't implement equivalents to many of the keyboard shortcuts (especially for commands in the ribbon) found in the Windows version. Thus, for example, changing to a different folder is a slow process - I haven't found a faster method than scrolling through the list with cursor keys. Nevertheless, someone at Microsoft has evidently been paying attention to its accessibility, and that's a positive development.

LDAP/AD questions

Hi, Firstly apologies in advance for some of these questions. I am very new to LDAP/AD setup and administration. Background: I work for a company who have a couple of different LDAP/AD integrations, depending on the product. We are currently buying up other companies/products, and they sometimes come with their own LDAP/AD integrations. Recently the main person for LDAP knowledge in our team left to join IT, and I found my self for some reason offering to skill up on LDAP/AD. The problem: Most of the cases we get relating to LDAP, seem to result on the TSE getting on the customer's system via WebEx etc, to look at their tree, and other aspects of their configuration. There is some worry that I will not be able to do this, as there is not currently a remote desktop solution that works without the customer having to install a screen-reader. If I am wrong about this BTW then please post and let me know. For Linux boxes there is tmate etc, but I have found nothing like that for Windows. Also it is good to have a dump of the data, in case someone else takes over the case later on. So, I am looking for some useful commands that will dump the LDAP/AD tree info, so I can look at it with my screen reader/braille display. Also, I have looked in to setting up LDAP for test purposes. I want to use a Vagrant box or Docker image, but the implementations I saw in the past used puppet etc and looked fairly heacy. A lot of the tutorials I have looked at suggest to use the gui PHP admin tool. If anyone could point me to a command-line based resource for simple LDAP setup to get me started that would be great! A couple of weeks ago I commented on Meraki being fairly accessible. Most of it still is, but since they've made upgrades, it appears that the settings form controls are not reporting correctly to any screen reader. You can't determine which settings are checked or not. I needed a mouse click assistant to disable Imessaging on our iphones today. I could actually clear the checkmark with the keyboard, but screen readers couldn't report it.

Hello, I'm trying to transition from Jaws to NVDA for more day to day tasks but there are a few items that just don't work as expected. One of these is the SCCM main list view. Jaws reads this well but NVDA seems to get bogged down by something after reading a few items. For example: 1. Open SCCM. 2. Press control 1. 3. Press Control T to set focus to the treeview. 4. Press D twice to jump to the device collections view. 5. Press Control M to set focus to the list view. 6. Firstly NVDA reports unknown. This seems to be a problem with recognising that control but it's not a big deal. 7. Press tab a few times to get to the list view. 8. Arrow around using the up and down arrows. 9. NVDA speaks as expected. 10. Now press End. NVDA stops responding for a while. 11. Now when you arrow around the list it takes NVDA about 5 to 10 seconds to read out the currently focused list item. Say line doesn't update until the same 5 to 10 seconds time period as well. This could be a SCCM problem but I doubt it. I think it's NVDA related. If any of you have good contacts within the NVDA team would you mind bringing this up please? I assume that if I submit it via the NVDA Bugzilla site it will get put into a very long queue. I know they had an interest in making more system administration tools work with NVDA previously. I'm hoping that they are still interested in this. For those in here who use Microsoft Teams

Hello all, Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the Teams keystrokes don't often work as expected or not at all? For instance, I should be able to go immediately to the activity application bar via CTRL+1 (these worked for me at the very beginning, and then they just randomly quit.) I love Teams, and I find it one of the more accessible collaboration programs out there (with the seeming exception that copying messages via CTRL+C seems to work for everyone else but me). Not to mention, the awesome integrations and how they don't cost you anything for the feature. I find that most integrations work better on Teams mobile, though, than they do on the desktop (screen readers, I've tried both JAWS as well as NVDA and the result is the same, will say "You have received a card" whenever a new message comes in that's part of another application; does it all the time when we get JIRA updates posted to our community, drives me crazy). If others have noticed these issues, would love to see what we can do; mentioned them via Microsoft Tech community, but no responses there. If I send to the answer desk, which I've done in the past, it seems that I often never receive a response.

debian 9.3 as guest on vmware workstation 14, win10 host

Hello, I'm attempting to do an install of debian 9.3 x64 as a guest in workstation 14. The host OS is win10 v1709. I've read compatibility issues and have confirmed I am not using accelerated 3d graphics in the vm, and am using the LSI virtual scsi adapter in the vm. I'm using orca software speech for the install. At different points during the install speech stops and I'm assuming the vm has frozen. This does not happen at the same point of the install. The vm has 16GB of ram and a quad core processor for hardware. Suggestions welcome. Thanks. Dave.

Hi, I'm a newbie when it comes to these and haven't yet tried setting one up. My question is what's the easiest way to get a QR code into the authenticator app? Driver management?

Hi Listers, I'd like to please know what solutions do you make use of when it comes to driver management? I realise that many of you are sys admins and don't deal with managing existing drivers or installing new drivers, but for those who do, do you just download them from the official site? or are their tools that are able to get the correct drivers from the official sites?
