terminal in Windows 10

Hello, I've installed the Windows 10 fall creators update plus the stable version of jaws 2018. When I go into the terminal to work with bash or power shell jaws just says text area, and doesn't read the output automatically. When I up arrow it says C:\users\username, and nothing else. I'm wondering if there are any specific settings that you need to configure in the terminal properties to make the screen reader work optimally. Any help would be appreciated. Need an accessible yamp

A long long time ago, it was common for a Windows or Linux user to install a product known as a yamp, which stands for "yet another MVC / PHP framework". The most popular one these days is called XAMPP, which gives you the Maria MySQL, Perl, and PHP. However, XAMPP is totally not accessible, even with OCR. There are also lots of things you can run to install and connect other things to the PHP you get when you install XAMPP, but since I can't get the core application installed, the other Bitnami stuff is useless to me. Is there another system whose core installer is accessible? As always, thanks in advance for any information or ideas of where to look. I'm about to try the YAMP on GitHub and will report back on accessibility.

With shortcuts, I usually control them with GPO but for very specific once, I would login with local administrators account, make all necessary shortcuts and that's about it; when domain user logs in, those shortcuts appear on their desktop. Making shortcuts with in domain account would always brake them for no apparent reason, although, things might have been different now when I have folder redirection only and no roaming profiles. When I was working with desktops I moved to having redirected folders so specific profile folders were moved to the server and accessed from there. A DFS share was controlling replication so the data was sent across multiple servers. It did mean that for example if users logged into another machine then they would have to set up Outlook etc but they didn't seem to mind this as it was a fairly quick process. It also saved us a lot of disk space as well. In my current job I notice very much that people seem to be moving to laptops and they don't move around to other workstations. This was also happening in my old job especially with IT staff. I created a group for users who want Office on the desktop, then had a login script which copied the shortcuts for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook from the All Users folder to the desktop so it overwrote the existing file that was there. I spent ages trying to identify why it happened in the first place but I did have it. I eventually got rid of roaming profiles altogether and had a much easier life. If you have workstations with differing Office versions this did cause issues as you could end up with multiple version icons on the desktop. Accessibility improvements in the Windows console

Since quite a few of you use the Windows console, I thought I'd bring to your attention some major accessibility improvement in the terminal/console experience coming in the next Fall Creators Update. Wondering if anyone else is working in this environment especially with a multi VPC environment with cross account access. I’m starting to work with the AWS cli but am very very green. Roaming profiles and broken desktop icons

Hi all, Anyone has seen that or knows how to fix it? We have Windows 2008 R2 servers and Windows 7 Pro 64 bit machines. We have roaming profiles enabled to make it easy for the user to change machines and for us as well. Now we figured out that often the desktop icons are broken. llike ms word and excel icons can't open excel on another machine. though the software is the same. its even the same location it should find its exe file. Anyone knows what causes this issue that desktop icons get broken using roaming profiles? Buying a NAS for my home

Hi all, I plan to get myself a NAS. I am thinking of the Synology DS216J. What do you think? We have QNAP NASs in the office which are unfortunately not very accessible with their Web GUI. We also have 2 old Buffalo DiskStations which still work though they are very old. their interface is also pretty accessible. portable power

Hello, I'm in the market for portable power. I am looking for recommendations for products that people have bought, used, and liked, and why you like them. The first is a portable power bank. My goal is portability, but the biggest battery I can find. I've read about several, I don't mind if it looks like a brick, if it can go in a laptop bag it can go with me, but it's got to have a big battery, be able to handle multiple devices if needed, and would be nice if it would support quick charge/fast charge. The second item I'm looking for is a wireless fast charging pad. I've seen a few of them, ones by Choetech but they don't have the charger with them and some of them are not even fast charging, they're just wireless. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks. Dave.

JFW reading terminals

Hi, Not sure if this is the best place to ask this but it's the only list I'm subscribed to. I'm supposed to be working with a lot of cisco equipment at the minute, through SSH and terminal sessions. I'm using JFW since it was bought for me, all of our cisco equipment requires you to be on a remote server to configgure it and I can't use NVDA remote anyway because of firewalls, ETC. I've got JFW working fine remotely, but either on the local JAWS or remote JAWS I can't get it to read terminals. I'm using both PUTTY and tera term. It reads CMD fine just not terminals. Are there any special settings ETC I need to change? Cheers for any help. NVDA with Secure CRT is amazing!

Because I'm having a lot of problems with Jaws at the moment, I'm using NVDA a lot more than I would have. NVDA is slowing me down in Outlook and of course, I cant use it in remote desktop environments reliably but where it is really shining is in SecureCRT! I've just successfully connected to a Linux machine, Then used SSH to connect to a remote server where I needed to update some files. I used simple commands. Ls, pwd, ps etc and the feedback was perfect every single time. Then I ran nano and to my delight I was able to accurately navigate by character and by line. I haven't had that kind of reliability from a Windows screen reader in an SSH session before. I'm just delighted! I've also found good success in the command line and in powershell. Android development on Linux

Hi everyone, I am told that in most corporate environments Android development is usually done through Android Studio. I am also told that Android Studio is currently inaccessible on Linux because the Java ATK Wrapper has not been worked on for a while: https://git.gnome.org/browse/java-atk-wrapper/ Can anybody confirm for me that what one needs to use Android Studio on Linux is an updated Java ATK Wrapper? Hi. Asking for a friend, and he's not too technically and just got banned from a mailing list or two, not sure why, but they have a good reason, and cannot even remember what the mailing list or group. So he was asking, is there any server tools, that would him to unban him self from any servers. If this question, gets me banned, then fully accept and just my stupid fault, thought I did read the rules some where or maybe did google. Hope this is on topic. Thanks. Ps: so is there a way for some one like my friend, and just call him fred, to protect his privacy, so, any ideas, or is this getting close to illegal software or illegal activity, did try to google this question, and did not seem to find a real answer. So did try and do research, and trawled through about 30 pages. I'm presently running a mail server for my personal domain via a Linux installation hosted at linode.com. It works well, and the virtual machine is also offering various other services that I've configured (DNS, a small Web server, telephony via FreeSWITCH - not functional at the moment but likely to be reconfigured when I have time, etc.). There is no calendar, though I would like one that is compatible with both iOS devices and Microsoft Outlook. The main problem with the mail server is spam. I've tried SpamAssassin, rspamd and, the most successful of the options, crm114, which regrettably isn't currently maintained but still runs. The best that I've been able to achieve regrettably yields too many false positives. Thus my options are either to rework the antispam solution or to consider having the mail hosted by a large mail provider. Google and Microsoft, for example, can host, but it appears that one has to be a business in order to host domains with them, under a business plan. Of course, I love command line administration and the flexibility to configure everything - I would rather not go to an entirely Web-based UI designed for nontechnical users that doesn't provide the desired degree of control. I'm not running a business of any kind - I'm an individual in ongoing, full-time employment. I haven't done the migration as I pay annually for my subscription, and still may continue with it at the moment. From what I have read there is downtime as you need to delete your domain from the Office365 control panel and then add it into Outlook to make sure everything migrates across, there is apparently a nasty situation if you cancel the account without doing this where your domain is in limbo for 90 days in the database. That gives you an outlook.com and a domain email, you can then invite 4 more outlook.com members to sign up for your domain, giving you 5 addresses in total. If I don't do anything else I will be migrating to the Office365 personal next year instead of paying for the Office software as part of the subscription as it works out cheaper and gives you 1GB of OneDrive space per account which is actually quite useful as other apps use OneDrive personal and can't access OneDrive Business. Just thought it would be interesting for people. windows and virtual environments

I have read threads on this from time to time. Here is my situation: I may soon be in a work situation where I need to setup windows 2012R2 from the ground up. This will be on a VmWare server. I have successfully installed windows server in a vmware workstation environment. Sound with workstation works because I am on the same physical machine and I get speech in the PE disk. How do you or can you get speech durring a install when the install is on a VmWare server? If you can't get speech, how can you use the system? For a bonus, Later I will be asked to setup windows server images in the ec2 cloud. I use the Linux systems there just fine, but can those systems be used? Also, I have a Xen server as well I can use if that works better. I use Xen with multiple types of Unixhish systems and have work arounds to access those systems. If anyone has any experience at all, I would appreciate it. I suspect I will have to do a lot of customizing for this to even work at all. Thanks in advance for any thoughts. -- Kelly Prescott
