Hi List, For those using jaws and windows 10, Do you perhaps have some advice for me please, with the following issues I experience below? I find that JAWS is not reading search results in the start menu, I don't hear items in combo boxes, I'm not able to review text in edit boxes in apps like Whatsapp, and I can't use the Microsoft store reliably. It sounds like a video accessibility driver issue but I'm not too sure. Clean install of windows 10 up to date. Ensured that I'm using the correct and up to date display driver. Have done a reinstall of jaws, latest version. I've enabled the start menu, access out of process option. Use accessibility display driver for capture option is checked. This is also happening on my work machine using windows 10 but I could get by with it for now. The only reason why I am still sticking with windows 10 is because I find that there is less of a lag compared to windows 11, where all works just fine. My home machine does not support windows 11 officially, but if I install it anyway, all seems to work fine. Any help would be much appreciated, apologies for posting such an unrelated question to this type of list. Kind Regards

Accessible encryption windows hard/ssd/thumb drives at use and at rest?

Hello, I just dodged a big bullet, which could have had identity-stealing implications if I hadn't got lucky. That being the case I'm looking for accessible encryption methods, free is best, for windows drives, complete drives, hdd/ssd/m.2/USB/sd/if I plug it in it's a drive. I'm needing it to be accessible when the system is booted up in windows, but if the machine is shut down or powered off, basically if the drive is removed it's at-rest encryption so that if someone were to pull it out of a computer (which happened) they would not be able to read anything on it, so I'd be out a drive and not the valuable data that goes with it. Output of continuous integration (CI) systems

Hi. Anyone got any tips for accessing the console output from a CI system job run? I'm talking about Azure Devops and Github Actions which both have the same issues. I have fairly verbose jobs that I need to get info from fairly quickly. Back in the golden days I could open the console output from the job in Edge or whatever and do a find on page using JFW's find feature, and the piece of text I wanted would come up and I could arrow around to read the log. These days both of these systems are doing something different. I typically can't just do a search anymore on the log window. In Azure Devops I can view a raw log, but it has timestamps which I have to skip through in order to get to what I want. In Github actions I have to download the log locally and go through it there. Arrowing through the log in the log viewer doesn't help either, I can sometimes turn off virtual PC cursor and get text out that way. Even worse is when I want to copy text from the log to the clipboard, its virtually impossible for me to select what I want and do ctrl+c to get it in the clipboard and elsewhere. Anyone got any tips for navigating these systems? Thanks. Andrew.

The scale of software accessibility

Here's something a little different. I've been kicking around the idea of a numeric score to grade the accessibility of software. It still needs work, but this is what I have so far: 0. Deliberately inaccessible: The developer purposely hinders the program's accessibility. Example: Some books on Amazon kindle will specifically announce their incompatibility with screen readers. (I'm guessing this is fallout from the Authors' Guild complaining about the Kindle's use of TTS supposedly cutting into audio book sales). 1. Completely inaccessible. The program cannot be used by screen readers. Example: old Flash and Java apps. 2. Accidentally accessible. Some parts may be accessible thanks to the various software libraries or platform used, but the devs aren't deliberately trying to make the software accessible. Often this accessibility is only achievable through workarounds. Example: Navigating from comment to comment on Reddit requires you to jump from downvote button to downvote button. 3. Acknowledged inaccessibility. The devs know the software is inaccessible, and acknowledge it in some way by pointing to 3rd party workarounds or alternative software that is accessible. Example: VanDyke software (who makes SecureCRT) just has a page pointing to some 3rd party JAWS scripts. 4. Mostly accessible. The program is usable enough to rely on in a workflow, and the devs make an effort to keep things from breaking, but accessibility bugs aren't given the same level of care as other issues. Example: Microsoft Office. 5. Accessible. Every part of the user experience is accessible. The devs may even pay attention to little details like sound cues and button colors. But as above, sometimes issues arise and aren't dealt with as quickly as one would like. Example: some of Apple's first party apps. 6. Completely accessible. Not only is every part of the software accessible, but any bugs that hinder accessibility are treated with the same urgency as bugs that would hinder the software's usability for the general public. An update is never shipped unless accessibility has been confirmed. Example: I literally can't think of one. So yeah, just a bit of fun. What do you think?

While in HomeRow mode, press Control+F12. This will dump a bunch of information about the control with focus and its ancestors to the virtual buffer. Escape will get you back to Terminal. If things are failing in the way I suspect, this info will be slightly different in the failure case than when things are working. Feel free to send me the output for inspection. To save you the time in looking up the names, they are: growisofs, cdrskin xorriso wodim was also listed, but there's a caveat against burning DVD's, which I will definitely need to do, and Blu-ray Discs, in which I'm not interested anyway.

edit/select combo box extreme difficulties

Hello, The specific I'm going to call it an HTML5 edit/select combo box I'm talking about is specifically on Cloudflare, but any of these will work for the purposes of this question. I'm using the latest NVDA/chrome combo and I was on cloudflare atempting first to fill out there add a payment method form, second transferring a domain, but the specifics don't matter I mention them in case you want to see the specifics of where I was. I encountered what I think is an HTML5 edit/select combo box that's probably coded right and it might be my unfamiliarness that's preventing me from easily selecting items. I can fill out regular combo boxes no problem but this one first thing you get is selec, then it says press down arrow while in the edit field to open up a menu, press enter to select, escape to close the menu, tab to select and close the menu. I've tried this with both NVDA+space on and off it was not easy to do. There were two of them, the second one had two options one starting with a b the other with a p, so no problem. The first one which was the problem and which took me many frustrating hours to get, and I feel I got it by dumb luck/trial/error has a list of countries, obviously I want to select United States since that's where I am. In the edit/combo box I can start typing the word united and I'll eventually get two options, the first for "United States minor outlying islands" the second is "United States" I want the second one. So I tried hitting space, tab, enter, insert+space on and off and when I had one it would say "United States minor outlying islands" it was not easy to get. If anyone has anything on these specific controls please let me know, I have to do four more before the project that got me going is done and I'd prefer not to punt, peck, and pray to get it right for a day or more each. Best accessible Syslog analyser and/or server?

Hi all, Does anyone know of a good Syslog server and analyser for Windows please? I can produce syslogs from my router, with no problem, but wading through them for errors is tedious. What would be ideal, would be if the server could alert me by Email or otherwise, of errors, as they happen. Thanks all for help. Using Sendgrid as outbound mailer from now

Hi. I’m now using Sendgrid as the outbound mailer on this list going forward. This is because my Ips are now blacklisted on Office365 which means even delivery to my own address isn’t possible. Honestly its really hard work running a mail server these days that isn’t one of the big companies. accessible router recomendations

Hi: I am moving into a new home, and as part of the process tossed out my relyable but old Airport Extreme router that I’ve had for the past few years and am looking for something new. Was wondering if there were recommendations on good, accessible routers that would be worth looking into? I do not know who my ISP will be yet so am just sticking to plane routers for now and am mainly looking for feedback on some good accessible options I can look at. I’d like something on the advanced side but perhaps not quite enterprise grade, but something that will give me features to play with but also let me get going relatively quickly. Thanks a lot. Ryan

Microsoft Sentinel with screen readers

Anyone using Microsoft Sentinel successfully and efficiently with a screen reader? I'd love to know any tips. I'm sure the user interface is optimized for something, but IMO it's not screen reader navigation. My goal is to get as much information about an incident or even an alert as quickly as possible with as few keystrokes as necessary. Some competing products place all of this information on a single web page with headings and tables that allow for fast navigation, and a text narrative that can be copied for pasting into other applications. The existence of either of these features in Sentinel would be welcome. Failing that, your strategies for remaining competitive in the face of larger networks, smaller teams, more incidents, and less time. Chris

Ubiquiti and/or PFSense access

Hi all, I have a new flat and with it comes a 1GBPs Ethernet connection as part of the building service. The router they have given me is causing me a lot of issues so I want to upgrade it. I have been looking at different models and I have discount a lot due to the 1GBPs connection. I have a Sophos router from a previous job, but it doesn't support IPV6. At this point I am looking at potentially going with a Synology router, the Unifi kit or a PFSense build. has anyone used any of this and can comment on the usability with JFW? i know the Synology will be pritty much the same as the NAS, though they don't have a demo site for the router. I am going to check out the Ubiquiti demo site next but I know people on this list were using it. Thanks. Andrew.

Network question that is driving me insane

Hello, The below is an excerpt of a conversation I am having with a friend, I'm sending the initial topic here if anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate them. The summary I'm getting ready to block one of my home users from accessing *all* internet services here. Using Mac filtering I have already cut off his ps4 and his internet-connected tv it's actually my gfs but when he uses it it won't connect. I know about the inheriant limitations of mac filtering but he doesn't have the technical know-how to get around them, plus I'm going to put a network-wide site block on four specific sites that he goes to so that even if someone else here gives him there mobile or other device like a tablet it won't matter. Basic connectivity is this, AT&T Fiber internet, Orbi mesh system behind that, rbr50 to be specific which is running the latest Netgear firmware. Here it is: "Check me here please. 1. Any device must show up somewhere on the network it can not be a ghost or invisible or it wouldn't be able to receive anything 2. Any device (and this question pertains to my orbi) must show up in some way rather it's unknown or has a hostname or whatever, device must be in a list with it's IP Here's my problem, the one device I want to block (win10 64 bit home unactivated) is not showing up in my orbi connected devices, not as an unknown not as a nothing. Other devices connected via wired connection do even the RPI which is connected in to the same orbi satellite as the target shows and an arp scan from that box can not see it. I've tried arp scans from my machine here, the RPI, nmap, protable windows wireless network scanners, even fing on the phone, nothing is seeing this box, yet it connects to the internet. Ok, so I decided to look for an alternative WiFi or direct means, thinking maybe spectrum was put in and he's going separate, nope, the ethernet cord goes from the back of the target box to the orbi, no wireless addon cards in that box, nothing. I can also say he's not doing a phone tether, one no wireless or bluetooth to do it, 2 he's not that smart, 3 the speeds wouldn't be sufficient enough for streaming let alone gaming. What I'm trying to do is get 2FA push notifications going, where they get the notification of where the authentication is being made from and other information, and they just tap confirm. Syslog analyser software?

Advice on CCNP enterprise specialization

So I passed my ENCOR exam last month, and surprisingly had no issues with the Pearson VUE ADA accommodations this time. I'm trying to figure out which of the CCNP specializations I should choose for my next exam. My short list right now includes: 300-410 ENARSI (advanced routing) It's the most traditional. It seems to have more overlap with my earlier courses. It seems like it has the most content that would transfer to other vendors I have access to lab equipment. 300-435 ENAUTO (network automation) It looks more future proof. I'm already somewhat comfortable with things like Python and Ansible It seems more buzzword compliant I'm all about offloading as much cognitive burden as possible. That's what computers are for. Tables in m365 admin sites inaccessible

Hi all, I use the admin pages of m365 like: Admin.microsoft.com Or the message trace in the new exchange admin center as examples. What I'm finding is that I'm not able to select users or information that is presented in a table. This started happening a few weeks ago. I've tried using different machines, screenreaders and different accounts from different tenants. Not sure if this affects a specific region. Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Kind Regards
