I'm asking the question again so sorry for the repetition. What software are you using on your desktop to run vitual machines? I need to run VM's on Windows 8.1 X64. These VM's will primarily run Windows 7 but it's likely I'll need to spin up a few Linux VM's as well. Any suggestions? I was usingVMware workstation for a good while but the jaws keys weren't passing through to the guest. I tried Hyper-V but I had no luck with that at all as exclusive mode wouldn't work properly. Again with Jaws.

Hi, as this is my first post on this list, helo for everybody and sorry for my english, I'm from Poland, but hope you'll understand me. I am looking for a solution for company I'm working, this should be a software for colaboration and document management, somethink like ms sharepoint, but open source. This should has accessible interface because I am totaly blind, so I should have possibility doing an administrative task and help peoples with problems. My solution for remotely helping users

Hi, I don't know somebody has tested it, but it works for me. I am using an USB redirector software: http://www.incentivespro.com/downloads.html it's a paid software, but license for 2 devices isn't expensive. My work PC is an usb redirector server, with connected and shared second USB keyboard and serial synthesizer Apollo II, from usb to serial converter. I thing it's should work with every hardvare synthesizer you can write driver for NVDA. The most complicated part it's a setup this tool on every PC you have customer, because you must install driver for usb to rs 232 converter, and setup a port number in rs 232 driver for your synthesizer, but after this it's simple. I have scripts for automating connection with my usb redirector server, so when customer is requesting help with his / her pc, the only thing required by me is clicking the "connect remote help" icon on his / her desktop, and the rest is for me. After connection script is automagically running portable version of nvda with preconfigured default serial synthesizer, and i have speech back by my Apollo II synth, and computer is controled by my second keyboard. I even can reboot computer if required and back to work, because i setup keyboard shortcut for running nvda. Ofcourse it is not solution for everybody, but if possible, it imho gives responsive and great way of remote work only for license for usb redirector server, windows client is free even for commercial use. -- Best regards, Michał

Hi, I have to reset up my office network and I don't want to use windows drive mapping as I will be adding some linux boxes in the feature. Her is what I have done so far. I have assigned all my machines their own internal IP's on the router. I started with hour lazor printer and hour inkjet printers on 02 and 03 respectively. Now what I want to do is to use net use to connect the different drives but I need some good exmples on how to do this as I don't remember how. I also no that I can put the commands in a batch file to run at startup to not have to reconnect them all the time but need examples for that as well. If anyon has any better suggestions I am all ears.

network scanners

Hi, I am helping my wife set up her tech at work. They bought her a copy of openbook and want her to use a network scanner. However I see openbook doesn't let you use a network scanner. Does anyone no of any work arounds or any other programs that will let you do this. Thanks Mike

problems with teraterm over RDP after window-eyes 9.0 upgrade

sorry for the last version of this message, it was a tad rushhed. Good afternoon, since upgrading to window-eyes 9.0 I can not get teraterm to work over RDP with windows on both the remote and host computers, teraterm will not speak the Linux command prompt. if the remote is running win XP and remote windows 7 with window-eyes 9, all works well, it is only when both machines are on W7 things stop working, nothing is spoken and the mouse and window-eyes cursors say nothing. apart from using windows XP does any one have any suggestions? thanking you in advance Iaen Cordell.

Good afternoon, since upgrading to windows 9 I can not get teraterm to work over RDP with windows on both the remote and host computers. if the remote is running win XP and remote windows 7 still with windows eyes 9, all works well, it is only when both machines are on W7. apart from using windows XP does anyione have any suggestions? thanking you in advance Iaen Cordell.

Hi all. Anyone on the list who feels that they are an expert with packet captures? I have many many questions to ask. Such as extracting specific data, identifying out-of-order packets, delay, jitter, extracting only specific header info, and so on. I am using Tshark and TCPdump. The GUIO of Wireshark isn’t that friendly. Thus CLI is what I am using. Sean

screen reader ratings

All, I've put together a rudimentary screen reader rating page. http://www.iavit.org/~john/screenreaders/ It was triggered by the different comments on this list about the quality of different screen readers. There seems to be some disagreement about the capabilities of the different screen readers. I am hoping to collect all the pluses and minuses of each screen reader and end up with a overall rating for each. I threw together some very preliminary numbers. I don't feel that I know enough about each screen reader to actually rate them. So I put a feedback link at the bottom of the page. Any/all corrections are appreciated but please do include the rationale for your opinions.

This is pure speculation on my part, but Microsoft appears to be very close since the agreement in place to have a free version of Window-Eyes with a valid installation of MS Office. I believe Microsoft did this when they included an anti-virus solution with their OS, they just obtained it from a company that already had one in place.

I'm working on a really tiny battery operated project at the moment. Anyone know of a PC that is about the size of a raspberry pi that can run for about eight hours on a battery? It doesn't need to have network or video out. It needs two USB and 1 audio out. I could build one using a Raspberry pi but I'd need someone with a 3D printer to get the case right. I don't particularly mind if it runs Windows or Linux but if it's Linux, enough power to run Gnome and Orca would be great.

Exploration of IT and Windows Server related careers

Hi all, I'm doing some career exploration in the IT field, and wondering if anyone would have any suggestions on IT related careers that would have a greater likelihood of being accessible, or thoughts on the types of jobs I may want to consider. I'd be looking for an entry level role to start with, since I don't have a lot of experience yet. I've done some help desk work where I've developed customer communication skills. During my studies, I've had a beginner course in databases, studied the Cisco IT Essentials course through CAVI, and done some programming, courses, though didn't feel programming is one of my strong points. However, I may consider some higher level programming such as PHP without a lot of graphical interface work. I've also studied the basics of command line Linux administration through CAVI. I haven't had any Windows Server experience, and am wondering about how and what to explore to get a sense of what types of duties would be involved with server administration. One thought I have is to try using an Amazon EC2 server with NVDA's remote access once that is released. I have a Canadian membership to Bookshare, and have found some Windows related books there. Are there any other accessible sources of Windows server material, certification or otherwise? I'm interested in exploring work from home opportunities, but would also consider working in an office given the right opportunity. I'm interested in assistive technology and have thought about doing some remote-based software support for other AT users, but have found that the market for that type of thing seems quite small here in Canada, and I'm uncertain I could make a career of it.
