Hi everyone, My name is Sam. I was recommended to join this list by Catherine, thank you! I am volunteering at an emotional support hotline in Chicago IL that uses the shoretel unified communication system I think it's called. Basically the phone and computer are connected. The organization has never had a blind volunteer before so is hesitant about being sure I can independently use the technology. A lot of what we would do on calls envolves transferring, calling another number while on a call with someone, conference call and I think that's it. I have not had any experience with this system before. It's taken me forever to find anyone who's blind who could talk with me about it. Catherine has been extremely helpful and also recommended this list for more information. Basically am curious how well a screen reader would work in doing the above tasks and in general with the program. I use NVDA and am totally blind. Also I would need a headset with one ear for the phone and one for the computer and would like to know the best way to get one that's inexpensive as possible and that would work with any computer or phone at the organization, all wor stations are the same so I guess that doesn't matter. But just making sure I get the right one basically. I have contacted the Chicago lighthouse as I know lighthouse programs use them. Have not heard back, will be contacting other lighthouse programs.
