Hi, With Team viewer: I believe several years ago I was able to configure different machines to remember the code from the control panel on the web. This way I was able to login to the machine and do not ask anybody for the code. For many years, I have used LogMeIn to remotely connect to desktops. It is very reliable solution and works very good with JAWS and NVDA. It is though not very accessible as well. I have used my magnifier to interact with some dialogs/popup windows but when the connection is up and you are in the remote system, it works very good. This solution does not make end user to logout, you just get into their desktop quick and easy. Probably not the best if there is no way you can interact with some very inaccessible popups. The most and accessible 100% would be RDP session, but yes, it will kick out end user out of their account. Mostly end users are okay with that for as long as you let them know. One caveat with RDP that it gets blocked by native windows firewall sometimes and you get no access before you change firewall settings on the remote PC to remote in. JAWS remote, it's only for your activation to continue working when you logged in to the remote PC. -----Original Message----- From: Mike Fulton <mikefulton95@gmail.com> Sent: Thursday, September 17, 2020 7:27 AM To: Mailing list for blind system administrators <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Re: remote support Hi, I was able to get teamviewer up and running, although it's not the most accessible program. I have a couple of issues. Is there a way to allow connecting without the user having to enter a password? I had the full version of jaws installed on both machines, but typically I would only have the jaws demo or NVDA installed on the remote machine. Would the jaws remote addon work with team viewer? I noticed that the jaws sound quality was very poor. Is there anything that can be done about this? Is there a way to have the jaws audio only play on my machine and not on the remote computer? I'll just be providing basic support for the most part. A lot of the users are not tech savvy at all. I didn't realize that team viewer would push audio, I'll test that out tomorrow. They currently use a package called DameWare but I can't find an option to push the audio. The reason they like that package is because it does not require the user to enter a code, you can just connect by entering the computer name or IP with no user intervention.

Hi,
What tasks are you having to perform on the desktops? I can't remember whether you can log into RDP with another user and have the same user still active, back when I did this it wasn't possible on XP. There used to be a /admin switch you could use to get RDP access to the console session where the users was logged in, I don't know if that exists now. Also the RDP option may not be open by default on the machines if they are using another package.
If I need to do this I sometimes use Team Viewer with Narrator (which means you don't need JFW installed on the machines either, which is another problem). TeamViewer pushes the sound as well as the screen to your machine. I try and avoid remoting into other machines at all cost, there are lots of ways to do most of the tasks you require like installing something or manipulating files using other remote admin techniques.
Andrew.

It's for desktops. That wouldn't be good. Is there another solution? What if I logged into remote desktop with a different account than the one that is currently logged in?

Hi,
Is this servers or desktops? If desktops/workstations JAWS and RDP wouldn't be the answer. When you made the connection it will kick the local user out of their session.
Thanks,
Billy

Hi all,
Part of my job requires me to remotely access machines to provide support. The only solution I'm finding is to install the jaws demo on all of the computers on the network, and purchase the remote access addon for my license. Is that the best option? If so is there a good way to deploy jaws to all of the machines? Ideally we would not even want the users to know that jaws is installed so they do not accidentally activate it.
