Hello, I have a question, is there any kind of new rootkit or malware released in the last day or so? It effects win7/8 boxes administrator account, what was described to me, the box gets slow, and was shut down. This is win7, was shut down cold then restarted a few minutes later. The user attempted to log in as administrator. Now what makes me suspect rootkit is that the admin password was entered, the system said invalid password, the owner did a login attempt so many times that the admin account locked out. The system was forcefully shutdown, and brought back up. This time administrator logged in successfully, but it went in to what was called a temporary account like a guest account, and stays there. Files are only accessible by the computer icon via start menu. Programs do not work such as word. I'm really thinking rootkit. An AVG antivirus scan was run as was a disk cleanup, both came up with nothing. Any ideas? Thanks. Dave.
