Yeah, they should allow for deactivating so if you know you're doing something major, you could deactivate it, sort of like how Mobile Speak is doing now on the Windows Mobile side of things. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John G. Yeah, I haven't had any problems either. This had better not be a trend though. If FS starts giving me trouble when requesting a new activation, that would be the last straw.
Unhappy with the JFW activation policy? Unhappy is a vast understatement.
I'm sure a lot of people on this list are constantly replacing parts on their computers. That's what we do for a living. Or maybe you want to try making your PC dual boot and have to reinstall Windows. Maybe after that, you decide to try vmware. And that's on top of all the times you might re-install for the same reasons anyone would like if you got a hard disk failure, etc. Swapping out parts, re-installing Windows for whatever reason, these things all require you to re-activate jaws.
Freedom Scientific is going to drive customers away. I am trying to go jaws-free as soon as possible. I even went out and bought a Mac with my own money hoping to dump jaws. If I get good enough at using Voiceover, I'm dumping jaws. It's not because of the cost. It's because of that activation policy.

Andrew,
Wso far I haven't had any problems with activations, at home or at work. I am currently rebuilding two computers at home and we will see how FS acts.

Hi,
Anyone else had issues getting activation resets from Freedom Scientific?
I normally request a reset around twice per year, but this time I had an issue where I upgraded the RAM in my laptop, causing me to have to activate again, then this weekend I tried to install Vista, activated, and had a driver crash which meant reinstalling. I did get the activation count reset, but I got a message stating that they have noticed that I had to have the account reset a few times, and to contact support if this continued happening.
I am frankly unhappy with the current activation process, and wonder if anyone has got FS to work round it in their situation?
At work its even worse since due to the license type I was given I only have one activation, which means that if I need to reinstall I am going to have to reset it afterwards.
Thanks. Andrew.
