Hi, You could try. Narrator is for me just a screenreader to use when no screenreader can't be installed or i wouldn't be allowed to install NVDA. Otherwise i would install NVDA because it performs much better. Maybe you might try both solutions at home and over the net with a friend. So you can see if that would work out for you. NVDA Remote is a plugin for NVDA so you need to install that separately. Installing NVDA as a portable copy would work but i have figured out that it doesn't perform well in some administrative tools like mmc or some settings. I sometimes use then a mix of narrator and NVDA to get through. Fortunately my people are all in the same network as we so that works pretty well. And i prepared the NVDA copy on that machine so that no speech is coming out on their end. Hi: I tried to implement RIM at a previous job, and despite help from Serotek we couldn't get it to work. This was quite a few years ago so I'd definitely not rule the solution out, but back when I looked at it, it worked well on machines on the same LAN as myself, but when trying to work with other machines across the companies WAN, I got very frequent connection drops. We never figured out just what was going on and in the end needed to move onto a different product. RIM in principle looked like a good product for what I was needing, but at the time we just couldn't make it work reliably. As I said that was a while ago so I'm sure its gone through a few updates since, and if I were in your shoes I'd give it a second look but really test it out under real world circumstances. Ryan

O my god, very excited! Stuart, could you provide more information about the application and share your experiences please?

This looks interesting. How do you have it set up to work with machines over the network? I don't need the remote users to hear speech. It looks like the option that does not give speech on the remote side is only designed to work on 1 set computer. Do you know if that can be expanded to work on several computers?
Thank you, Mike

Hi,
Are those all the companys computers? Or are you working in a kind of support company that helps private users?
I use NVDA over here with NVDA Remote. All computers are in the same network. So i opened a nvda remote instance on my pc that it acts as a server. I guess i posted that config once on this list.
In any case you always need to install or to roll out a screenreader on all computers you want to control.
Jaws also has such a feature. But i have no info about that.

I can use them all meaning all of the screen readers. If something works. I will be switching remote clients often and to install a screen reader on the remote system every time might be a discouragement for the employer to hire me for the job. So, if something works please let me know. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eigeldinger Simon" <simon.eigeldinger@hohenems.at> To: "Mailing list for blind system administrators" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Thursday, October 8, 2020 12:21 AM Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Re: remote system admin job with speech
