Cisco Jabber was introduced at my company nearly 3 years ago when it was completely unusable with Jaws. Let's just say, the people working with me to resolve these issues were quite committed to getting a solution from Cisco. Many conversations took place with senior groups and finally there were some scripts released by Cisco. Since then, the conversations have continued and more scripts have been released. I believe the latest version of jabber is usable with Jaws 18 and the scripts. I am currently using v11.6 Here are some common tasks I use on Jabber. search for contacts text chat including typing announcements (inconsistent) joining chat groups (different to chat rooms) automatic announcement of caller ID when I get a call. There are keystrokes and functions for making and receiving calls, but I like to either use my desk phone for that or use my mobile app. I could send out the scripts for those who need them, but I am not sure if this creates any legal issues for anyone. So I would recommend to reach out to the telecommunication team responsible for this to get a copy. They should be able to login to their portal and download. If you have any specific questions, then do let me know and I can try to answer them. Thanks Chamandeep singh Grover On 3/13/17, Scott Granados <scott@granados-llc.net> wrote:
This is fantastic information, thank you.
Also, it does work well on the Mac.

All,
Jabber 10.6 for windows is the first release which has Jaws support. No other screen reader at this time is supported with Jabber. You must install the Jaws scripts to make it work correctly. I would recommend Jabber 11.8 with the latest scripts. All are found in the Jabber download directory.
Jabber 11.5 and later will tell you the recent phone calls and voice mail. 11.8 works with chat history. If you have questions, reach out to the accessibility@cisco.com mailer. Then the accessibility team will help you.

You wonder if NVDA could possibly fill in here? I've noticed that one often has what the other lacks.

It (jabber) also tends to be pretty good on the Mac as a different method.
I tried recently on Jaws 18 and didn’t have the best experience although it was somewhat usable. I will follow up on these scripts as well.
Thanks

Hi Mika, Thanks for the answer. I'll contact Cisco directly and see what they will tell me. Here in the European parliament where i work all voip phones use cisco Jabber allot, and for me it is really annoying not to be able to see the calls list.

Hi, I use it but I end up having to use the Jaws cursor a lot. Also I think our version of Jabber is older than the scripts support.
I did get in touch with an engineer at accessibility@cisco.com and they provided the scripts.
The more people that write to them about Jabber the better.
I have been meaning to ask our telco team if they could get me a more current version of Jabber than what we have in production.
Incidentally before Jabber I was using Access-a-Phone but that product is not compatible with Jabber.
Best, Mika Pyyhkala

Hey all. So does anyone here use Cisco jabber with jaws 18 succsessfully? The reason why i ask this is because of their scripts, and from what i could find, their last edition of the scripts was for jaws 15 and 16, and i know that in the later versions of jfw, most of the old scripts had to be recompiled or redesigned in order to get them working.
