Hello Jackie, Thanks much for telling us about the UVK. Much appreciated. for portable anti-virus programs with in my so-called ultimate technicians toolkit, I use the following: antiviral toolkit ClamWin Casir. EScan I know the various antivirus manufacturers out there make linux versions of their antivirus programs available, but they don't include any screenreader or let-alone support for sound. If the linux guru's on this list can remaster their disks to include support for sound as well as screenreading it would be great. Happy Easter/Passover, all, for those who celebrate such.
This is a complex subject, & very much depends on what's going on w/the machine. Clearly, booting the box to linux, updating virus definitions, & scanning is an excellent way to go, as rootkits that may be active when the OS is booted are obviously not in this particular scenario. It also allows for disinfection in a sterile field, as it were, to take an analogy from medicine. Many Linux-based antimalware solutions don't always clean up the registry, which can be a problem if malware entries are running there, as when they're cleaned, that can create errors that keep the computer from booting.
Most flash cards can in fact be write protected, so in that particular case, portable apps can be helpful. 1 that has recently come to my attention, & that I'm liking *a lot*, is Ultra Virus Killer, freely available as both a portable & installer, at: www.carifred.com/uvk/
This program combines a lot of cuntionality to emulate apps such as Process Explorer, DDS, & others. It is run w/Windows booted, however, which, again, can allow some rootkits/bootkits to remain undetected.
Mgr Chmiel, who has replied previously to this topic, has also posted some links to Win PE software that can be used by VIP's. 1 link I have is: http://reboot.pro/15080/page__gopid__134129#entry134129
U can check the archives for his post(s) on this topic.
Gl w/that, Dave.

Dear sir,
I Am recommending You to download Clamwin portable. You can get it from The following link.
http://freefr.dl.sourceforge.net/project/portableapps/ClamWin%20Portable/Add...
Run The download .exe installer and install The product to The empty folder. Run The clamwinportable.exe and confirm, that You want to download The virus definition database. After virus definition database will be downloaded, exit Clamvin portable. Burn The whole folder structure including The sub folders to The CD-R media and take this media with You. varning.
Clamwin portable is not so good like Microsoft security essentials. You can only scan or remove The files when virus will be found. Clamwin will clean and analyse The computers memory for malvare processes.
The best solution for You and others administrators, who are visually impaired will be Windows8, when Windows to Go will be released, You will be able to take Windows8 installation with You on USB flash disk and You will be able to use Microsoft security essentials to clean viruses from The host computer.
Triing to use antivirus from infected system can have The potential in various system instability issues. The realistic solution for You is to use some Windows PE live project to create The live USB or live CD. I have tried to install WIndows8 to USB external harddrive to make my virus cleaner tool on external USB harddisk, unfortunately, installer stopped to work after booting.
Take in mind, that when You will use some live project, The virtual memory will not be available and that virus cleaning will take longer time than running it from normal Windows operating system. It is sad, but i do not know about Clamwin portable variant for Linux.
So try to run Clamwin portable from The infected system and try to test this tool, what it will do with The system. Please let us know about The results of using clamwin portable with applied virus database update. When Clamwin will find The virus, it will let You know. If You will want to remove it, You will have to use options menu to specifi, that You want to remove The viruses.
