Darragh: A friend of mine who'se a blind VMWare admin at a local university played with this as well. He's had good results running Window-Eyes using PC over IP to a thin client, and is able to use it for day to day work. He expiramented with loading Window-Eyes onto the thin client, and actually got it to work, but for some reason the virtual synthesizer redirection didn't work when he tried RDP, so he just has the thin client set to log on automatically. While your and his tests work in a limited way there's a concern I think blind people will run into quickly if this becomes much more widely deploied, and that is WAN links. I don't know how well sound redirection travels over a WAN but I assume not that well. We use Citrix's VDI solution, Xen Desktop, where I work. It runs on top of VMWare as well. I don't have a thin client, but I do have a Xen Desktop set aside for my use, and I can use Window-Eyes's Citrix redirection with not a lot of lag. I think on a thin client though it'd be much worse. Realistically though, the employer could provide a low end computer running a local copy of the screen reader so virtual synthesizer redirection will work, I don't think that'd be asking a lot.
