Hi, Actually there are many different controllers that Dell put into their servers, depending on what you wanted at the time. It is possible that you could disable this in the BIOS, even with the add-on controller, by changing the disk mode from RAID to SATA, though I have tended to only do this with higher end Poweredge models. On another tack, why are you trying to get rid of the RAID? Thanks. Andrew. ________________________________________ From: Frank Ventura [Frank.Ventura@littlebreezes.com] Sent: 29 December 2008 12:58 To: Andrew Hodgson Subject: RE: [Blind-sysadmins] Dell RAID to SATA Hi Andrew, I believe the Dell has their own branded 5i/R RAID controller installed. It is an exspansion slot on the motherboard, not intergral to the motherboard. We would like to eliminate the RAID configuration and boot from a SATA hard disk. What is involved in this? Is it as simple as removing the RAID controller and installing a SATA controller and attaching it to a SATA hard disk? Are there any changes to the BIOS that must be made?
