OK. If you go into the hardware settings for the VM, I think that's a ctrl+d, make sure the sound card is added as well as connected (those are two different settings.) If all that is the case, can you try a Windows 10 DVD just to make sure things are working there? In theory I'm told if sound works for Windows 10 it should work for server but I haven't tried this myself. Also just as an FYI you should be able to use the easy install feature of VMWare Workstation and have it install the OS for you and just boot to a desktop. Hi Luke: Can you confirm there is sound in the host in other applications other than VMWare? Ryan

Hi all
When first creating a Windows VM, with host server 2016 and guest server 2016, I get up to the server setup screen, where you choose the Lang and time zone and all that, I need narrator to help me through the install process. However when starting narrator, there’s no sound from the VM. I’m using workstation player 14 and in the VM settings the sound card is set to use host default sound card.
Anyone got any ideas why there’s no sound coming up? The narrator dialogue box pops up but just no sound.
Thanks for any help. Luke
