There should be no difference between running from the system tray and running normally. In neither case does JAWS leave anything behind after it restarts. By default, JAWS anonymously uploads crash reports to Freedom's servers for analysis. These really are anonymous and so it's not possible to find a particular dump and corollate it with someone's verbal/written error report. If you're having persistent problems, it makes the most sense to go into Settings Center, search for the word Error, and change the value to never send error reports to Freedom Scientific. At that point, dumps will be saved to AppData\Roaming\Freedom Scientific\Reports\jfw\User Hold for the invoking user. (Actually the dumps get written to the parent directory and are then moved into userhold when JAWS restarts) If you've opened a support ticket having to do with a crash, proactively .zipping up dumps and then sending them to the support person you're working with can speed the process. For the couple of you who are getting persistent crashes, if you want to .zip up a few dumps and send them to me off-list for a quick look, I'm happy to offer initial insights but no guarantee of an immediate solution. (I'm making this offer assuming that flood gates won't immediately open.) This is a great list and I appreciate the insights that people offer to various questions. --Glen Glen Gordon VFO | Vice President & Chief Technology Officer 11800 31st Court North, St. Petersburg, FL 33716 T 727-299-6230 ggordon@vfo-group.com www.vfo-group.com -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Sean Murphy Sent: Thursday, May 25, 2017 4:42 AM To: 'Blind sysadmins list' <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] JAWS 18 crashes more often than not on 32 bit Jaws does create crashdump files nornally. This information is necessary to be sent to VFO support team with the steps that caused the crash if you know them. Sometimes Jaws is not the cause of the crash. Some things I do which ehlps: Regularly clean out the windows temp directory Remove internet temp files Perform a disk management and clean out any other unwanted files. Also how are you running Jaws. On the system tray or as its own application window? I would suggest if you are crashing a lot, then don't runn it from the task tray to see if this helps. Gordon can correct me on this point. But if Jaws crashes due to a unresponsive program and you have it running in the task tray. Then some of Jaws is left behind in the memory after it restarts. If this occurs enough times, then Jaws will start miss behaving. I forget why this occurs. Sometimes they try to stay up with latest browsers but other OS components and apps are not stable with latest JFW versions. Jaws 18 and win 10, jaws 17 and win 7 etc. You might disagree, but it is the reality and I've notice it many times, once 18 is out, it's all focused-on win 10 and nothing else. -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Katherine M. I've noticed that JAWS 18 crashes all the time, hence causing me to miss calls; there is no rime or reason for this; it just happens. I have a few other things open, yet with my personal laptops, both running 64 bits, I don't have these same issues at all. It's only my aging work computer. My work device is an HP EliteBook 8300. My personal laptops are a dell Latitude E6540 and a latitude D630, and neither of them give me these issues. I'm curious what I can do to keep the crashes to a minimal level to ensure that my performance doesn't degrade further? Work device is running Windows 7 32 bit and my laptops run 10 enterprise. I run a couple of nonstandard things for between calls, though that's no different than anyone else around here. I've tried to isolate the problem to a particular application and I can't. _______________________________________________ Blind-sysadmins mailing list Blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org https://lists.hodgsonfamily.org/listinfo/blind-sysadmins _______________________________________________ Blind-sysadmins mailing list Blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org https://lists.hodgsonfamily.org/listinfo/blind-sysadmins _______________________________________________ Blind-sysadmins mailing list Blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org https://lists.hodgsonfamily.org/listinfo/blind-sysadmins
