Hi Frank, Creative Sound Blaster # SB1040 And the X-Fi Xtreme - PCIe Card These are both PCI Express cards. Both will work well with native drivers on Windows Server 2008. Cheers, Barry.

Barry, yes it is a 64 bit system. Actually, I think Win 2k8 R2 only comes in 64 bit. I have already gone through all the USB ports. Is there a PCI or USB sound card that will have signed drivers for 64 bit Win 2k8? Kind of stumped on this one. Thanks for the help. Frank

Frank,
2K8 is 64Bit isnt' it? If so then AFAIK there's no way of by-passing the driver signatures. That's part of 64Bit Windows platforms. It just wont' load the drivers if they aren't Digitally Signed. How about shouting MS themselves? Have you tryed removing the card from Device Manager, rebooting? Does it come up again then? A different USB port? I've seen on 32Bit Windows 7 bad drivers behave this way. I'd a NAS who when connected via USB would do this. I actually ran it through all 12 USB Ports on a tower as it died on each port after a reboot. Eventually I ended up just having to trash the NAS and take the drive out and use it as a stand-alone USB drive. Terrible waste.
Barry

Hi all, I have an interesting problem that I have not run across before. I am trying to get audio (sound) output from our Dell PE 840 running Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise. I have tried a myriad of USB sound cards all with the same result. If I plug in a sound card that I have never used before into the Dell it will start working and I can get Narrator to work fine. Now if I reboot the computer and try that same USB sound card it won't work again and never will. This is the same results as with all sound cards I have tried. I have heard something about Win 2k8 not allow the loading of non signed drivers at boot up. Is this true and how can it be fixed? If not does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do to make this work? I am really pulling my hair out on this one. Tia Frank
