Hello, Which PE environments have been tested and what issues were encountered? I'm going to give this a shot, but would like to know which is my best bet. Thanks. I thought the PE environment didn't work with sound - not because of the driver issues, but because some of the other components to provide the sound output are missing. That is what I read in some of the forums anyway last time I tried this. Download the MassStorage Driverack and unpack it into the Drivers\SCSI folder in your PEBuilder directory. There are a few drivers that have .inf files with quirks that cause errors and warnings when building your disk. To fix the issues, find the folders that seem to have missing files buy browsing the error log. Most of the missing file errors can be corrected by making a copy of a file already in the driver directory and renaming it. (For example, there are numerous instances looking for bdco1ins.dll and the actual file is named bdco1.dll.) The remaining missing files are ide/atapi related and can be fixed by copying files from your windows\system32\drivers directory, or extracting them from cabs. Once completed, PEBuilder will automatically incorporate all of these drivers into your build, giving access to virtually all hardware in existence! Well I will let you know I will get to it this weekend. -----Original Message----- From: blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Ryan Shugart Sent: Thursday, October 23, 2008 10:03 AM To: Blind sysadmins list Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] accessible windows pre-execution environment Hi: Does Bart PE use Windows PE as its core OS or is it really making a bootable Windows XP? If the latter then I don't see why you couldn't incorporate any sound driver that works with XP. I've heard rumors that someone managed to make a bootable Windows XP using Windows XP Embeded, a version of Windows XP used in set top boxes and the like, and managed to get full sound and speech working on that. I didn't learn anymore, and I have no clue how one gets their hands on Windows XP Embeded. I have MSDN and just don't see it listed there as available to download. I'd be very interested in such a talking bootable environment as well, a lot of tools are moving or have moved from dos boot disks to Windows PE boot disks. I've used GRML, and its certainly usable for what it does, but for a primarily Windows environment having Windows tools would be nice. With some sort of USB sound integrated in, something like NVDA would probably work--at least that is my pipe dream. Matt On Thu, October 23, 2008 09:39, Angelo Sonnesso wrote:
You can add a driver directory to the Bart PE environment. If I can find a USB headset. I will try to make an disk image.

Hi,
I don't believe there exists such a thing as an accessible PE environment, as I don't believe any sound is an option in such an environment.
The only thing I would try is to get an accessible Speakup disk from somewhere and boot off that, but you would be issuing commands in Linux.
Someone a while back gave me a Windows 98 disk with NTFS support on the disk (this was sort of not fully legit), but I did think if this could work, and we could either get a dos screen reader or JFW installed in that environment with software speech, it would be very nice. However, it didn't come with any sound drivers enabled out of the box, so it would have to be customised for the PC you were using it with.
Andrew.

Hello, I'm trying to clean off a laptop that has been infected with a trojan. It's an xp machine, and the trojan has replaced the lsass.exe program along
with another .dll file in the windows\system32 directory. I was wondering if anyone had either an accessible copy of WinPE or BartPE environment or a way i could make it work with speech? Or, any other alternatives, a reinstall is not an option for this situation. Thanks. Dave.
