Yeah this is a problem. There used to be a system which was much better that gives you actual credit to use on Azure and you could use Azure natively through the cli or portal. You set up your own AzureAD tenant and it would all last for like 90 days or when the credit ran out. This got changed recently, in my last course I used something called Skillable which was as you suggest using VMs and didn't work for me. It was also universally hated by all the other students, but it came through from Microsoft not the training provider.
I've recently used Udemy for training because we've been taken over by another company and actually I found the courseware a lot better. It was on Github and I could work out how to operate the labs through it. I still do have access to an Azure subscription though so could imagine if I lost that it would be a bit of an issue.

Hello,
Through my workplace, I am planning to take the Azure Fundamentals course. The provider we use for virtual and in-person training is Global Knowledge.
For this course, they are using a web portal to access a virtual machine for doing a few of the course labs. The VM comes up inside the web page. Obviously this is not accessible.
Has anyone experienced any courses like this, and how did you get around it? For this particular course, I don't think the labs are critical, but I expect they will become more so as I take further courses.
