Hey Andrew, Firstly, thank you for your comments. Web interface is not important completely, because I'm an experienced user and can find some workaround. 3rd party app support is more important than web UI, I can use it for storing some apps as well. I don't have any information about Qnap, did you use it before? Best. 2019-05-04 23:58 GMT+03:00, Andrew Hodgson <andrew@hodgson.io>:
Hi,
Another one here for the DS918+. Using it with Docker and some native VMs running on the hardware after upgrading the RAM to 8GB (it can take 16GB if you don't use Synology RAM). What don't you like about the web interface? It’s a bit qwerky but you won't beat it for third-party support. Its main competitor is QNAP so take a look at those as well. Western Digital is pretty locked down to just its own signed apps.
Andrew.

2 bay will be enough for me, but I can't find a right and newer model that supports all 3rd party app installation. Synology website is not good as much as I want. There are multiple models available in the local deallers, but not sure which one is newer. Western Digital PR2100 and PR4100 comes with 4GB ram and Pentium dual core processor; however Device operating system is not completely secure and useful like others. Maybe installing Apache and other apps is possible illegally with out warranty.

Synology 918 Plus. As far as I know they all use the same DSM interface just with different features.

The Synology DSM web interface is pretty accessible.

Hello SysAdmins,
Currendly I'm using a WD NAS unit; however due to security and performance reasons would like to change it as soon as possible. I have looked Synology NAS devices, they makes me excited. It seems that we can install Apache web server and many 3rd party apps to use on the LAN. Do you have any experience for Synology devices? 218+ seems well. Some users are installed Ubuntu and NextCloud to Western Digital NAS devices pro series PR2100/PR4100 and they said that performance and security problem nearly fixed with this combination. What do you recommend for me? Does the web interface and build-in software UI is accessible with screen readers on Synology?
Thanks in advance. _______________________________________________ Blind-sysadmins mailing list -- blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org To unsubscribe send an email to blind-sysadmins-leave@lists.hodgsonfamily.org
