Hello, Thanks. I should probably explained that part a little better, when I'm testing supplies I don't have the newer graphics card in there, I just am looking for one that will power the box, and so far aside from the original hp one (which I plugged the new graphics card in to that supply and I got nothing, the box would power up but nothing on the screen. The issue with this other working supply is I need a sata to six pin adapter that I'm waiting on to try this graphics card with the working supply. So right now while waiting i'm trying to get a higher wattage supply to power this box with the original graphics card in it and determine how much watts it puts out so I'll know if it even has a chance of powering the box with the higher end graphics card in it. The graphics card you have could be pulling a lot of your power consumption. I can't remember where exactly in BIOS It might be. It would be obvious if it is available in yours on the screen. If a 6 or 700 Watt supply works but 500 doesn't, it probably is too small for your machine.

Thanks for your reply. Thinking about that specific supply yes that one does power up and whether it will get me in to bios not sure yet, i'd have to drop the original non-geforce graphics card in it and find out. If it does get me in to bios where would that setting be?

Is there a difference in inputs and outputs with supplies? I've got one that might be a DOA supply, it's a 600w. The one that came in yesterday is a 500w and it doesn't turn on at all, I can't believe it's dead, I don't have another box to test it on though, the issue with it seems to be in the 12v line. Then there's the one I asked about, it works I don't know if it can put out enough wats to power the machine (it's an hp dc8100 cmt) in desktop mode, then i've put my computer's working 700w supply in that box, didn't do a thing, that's why i asked about inputs.

Sometimes in the bios you can see that information. Does anything power on at all when you try to use it? If you can't get into BIOS, you would definitely need a multimeter. The only systems I know of right off is the Dell servers I have which have a screen on the front that can show you how many watts and other diagnostic info.

I'm trying to put a new power supply in a computer. I'll spare the details but basically I try to put in a new 500W and it doesn't work, along with the three other ones I've tested that are known good. I can get just one to work with this box, apparently it's tricky, it's an hp desktop and I'm wondering if the amps are not right? Anyway, I need to know if it's possible for me to determine how many wats the working supply is putting out? Sighted help doesn't see anything on the back of the supply indicating that and I don't have a talking multimeter. Is there another way to determine this information?
