Have you taken this up on a Windows 7 beta newsgroup?

There are a tonne of them on Connect.

Other than this, how are you finding the beta?  Is JFW working ok?

Thanks for your suggestion.

This looked like it was going to work.  It got to about one third into the C
artists and then crapped out claiming there was insufficient space to
continue.  It copied 85 new files, 

Target disc space is set now at Free space: 101,196,836,864 bytes 94.2 GB 

The source Free space: 24,441,307,136 bytes 22.7 GB 

The Targets directory location contains, 

54,598 Files, 4,384 Folders
Type: All of type File Folder
Location: All in K:\Music\audio\music
Size: 209 GB (224,953,480,640 bytes)
Size on disk: 209 GB (225,060,098,048 bytes) 

The source contains

56,903 Files, 4,504 Folders
Type: All of type File Folder
Location: All in I:\Audio\music
Size: 239 GB (257,634,779,800 bytes)
Size on disk: 240 GB (257,746,194,432 bytes) 

Um, I'm not a wizard with my maths but...  Huh?  There's looking to me like
there's probably about 50gig or so to kick about once the copy is finished
and the other 2000 or so files are copied from the source to the target.
Thanks for your suggestion though.  I'm sure I'll be using that syntax again
in future.  

Any other suggestions?

What about doing it from the command line.
Say something line
...
From the run command type
"cmd" press enter
"xcopy drive:\dirname drive:\dirname /d /I /s" and press enter.
This will copy all of the files and directories from the source to the
target but skip any files that are newer.

I am attempting to copy a data backup from a USB SATTA Caddy to a USB Caddy
drive.

Using Windows 7 and Windows Explorer the copy calculates the source size and
targets free space then gives me a dialog with try Again and Cancel claiming
there's not enough free space on the drive to perform the copy.  I need to
free up about 80GB or so on the target.

There's no options for replace files whilst copying in this instance it
seems.

NB.  The source is a few gig smaller than the target's overall directory and
the targets volume has 146GB free.

My next step was installed Windows Resource Kits Tools with the intention of
using robocopy.  The installer did warn me of known conflicts but I thought,
push on and see.

When i try and execute robocopy it generates a bunch of on-screen garbage
and lands me back in the c:\program files\windows resource kits\tools
directory.

I don't want to delete the target because it has some newer files than the
source.

However, one way i could work round it is copy the target to the source,
delete the target then copy the source to what was the target, it seems very
long-winded and wil take probably an additional six hours because this is
USB to USB, both powered and USB 2.0, but still will take a while.

Any suggestions for an alternative?  I could probably use rsync, but don't
want to drag this out as I'd have to read-up on it's syntax as it's been a
few years.
