If you're using the Dell wireless utility by chance and enable the Dell wireless utility the channel number is displayed in both system monitor mode as well as the connection tab. Otherwise you can browse to the routers wireless stats page and get your channel number from there. Another third option is to disable autoscan and set the channel by hand so you know what it is ahead of time. I too like essentials and I typically load a new box up with avg, essentials, malware bytes and ccleaner. I've also started playing with sandbox ie where internet explorer is run in a sandbox, there by isolating any malware infections in said sandbox - its working quite well on some test machines, but I'm a little bit away from putting it on all of my boxes. As far as your wireless questions go, I kno no way of telling the channel number using windows, but narrator reads the signal strength of the different networks in the wireless network connection window, but this is in the form of good, low, very low etc as apposed to the bar type representation that sighted people get. Hello, I've got to protect a new dell that has come out of the dark days of dialup in to the light of high speed cable. I'm not the primary user of it, but i am the primary supporter. I'm using jfw10 currently, but will be moving possibly to something else which is not certain, assume jfw 10 or 11 for now. I'm wondering this is an xpsp3 box btw, wondering the advantages/disadvantages in terms of accessibility, system performance or sluggishness, features, and for the users' ease of use and false positive detection, Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials. I want to protect against viruses, malware, trojans, rootkits, everything. I'd like to know which is better and less of a system resource holder. Unrelated, is there a way in xp to get the signal strength of a wireless connection or what channel it's on? I've heard suggestions of enabling balloon tips, but that didn't do it. Thanks. Dave.
