Thanks Andrew. This is good information. -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Hodgson <andrew@hodgson.io> Sent: Sunday, April 30, 2023 7:32 AM To: Mailing list for blind system administrators <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Re: Ubiquiti and/or PFSense access Hi. I think that was my thread. When I wrote that post I eventually went with a PFSense box which I used for just over a year before it died during the pandemic. Actually it didn't die but got very hot. I swapped out for Ubiquiti Dream Machine. For me it works but I don't think I would want to support it in a large business, for me there is too much going on in the backend, and the firewall isn't configurable enough. We have apparently got Wireguard and site-to-site VPNs in the latest release candidate firmware but not tested this end. Main thing for me is observability in a large environment. I can't easily get to some traffic logs to identify blocked traffic, and the line charts aren't very useful for me. When I had the PFSense box I did use a Ubiquiti access point which although worked did mean more equipment powered up. If the Dream Machine dies now I won't get another one with integrated access point as already the AP in the one I have is using older tech and I don't want to replace the whole thing to get Wifi 6. The Dream Machine SE with integrated PoE looks really good, but on the other hand I may just buy a PFSense box which uses low power and a PoE Ethernet switch to run the access points. I can always run a controller via a Docker container or if I'm feeling flush get a CloudKey. If you're running multi-site be aware the Dream Machines only let you control a single site. Those that are currently using a PFSense or the unifi line from Ubiquiti, how are you finding their interfaces with JAWS currently. For me, I think I only want to use the Unifi controller via an iOS device, but I don't think that can do all that can be done. The tables in the web site are totally unusable for me. I'm going to be supporting a small business with three locations and I'll want to do everything remote once the devices are installed. I have never had an accessibility issue. Sometimes a link is not labelled but it's always logical to figure out what it is. For example, it's always in the order info, edit, delete. -----Original Message----- From: Chris T via Blind-sysadmins <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Monday 16 September 2019 16:51 To: Blind sysadmins list <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Cc: Chris T <ultimatethesecond@googlemail.com> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Re: Ubiquiti and/or PFSense access A few edgerouters, lite, 5 port PoE, edgre pro 8. Also a few different wifi AirOS devices. Though tend to stick to the webgui on those. Cheers Chris Turner Sent from mobile.

Hello Andrew
The Ubiquity Access Point interface works with Chrome and JAWS or NV Access. Very busy though. If You decide to go with an AP it uses POE and doesn't let you do anything until it downloads and installs the most up-to-date firmware.
One would think that the Ubiquity routers would have the same level of accessibility.

Hi all,
I have a new flat and with it comes a 1GBPs Ethernet connection as part of the building service. The router they have given me is causing me a lot of issues so I want to upgrade it. I have been looking at different models and I have discount a lot due to the 1GBPs connection.
I have a Sophos router from a previous job, but it doesn't support IPV6. At this point I am looking at potentially going with a Synology router, the Unifi kit or a PFSense build. has anyone used any of this and can comment on the usability with JFW? i know the Synology will be pritty much the same as the NAS, though they don't have a demo site for the router. I am going to check out the Ubiquiti demo site next but I know people on this list were using it.
Thanks. Andrew. _______________________________________________ Blind-sysadmins mailing list -- blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org To unsubscribe send an email to blind-sysadmins-leave@lists.hodgsonfamily.org _______________________________________________ Blind-sysadmins mailing list -- blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org To unsubscribe send an email to blind-sysadmins-leave@lists.hodgsonfamily.org
