Hi, Thanks for the link. I'll check it out. I have used unattended, but just in the evaluation stage, i might get more in to it, as i do have linux experience. Thanks. Dave. -----Original Message----- From: blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of John Heim Sent: Tuesday, August 12, 2008 11:41 AM To: Blind sysadmins list Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Installing jfw9 during awindowsunattendedsetup? Nvda is at http://www.nvda-project.org/ Nvda is really sweet. Well, considering it's free it's fantastic. Not as good as jaws but pretty darn good. I used to use a really slick unattended installation system from http://unattended.sourceforge.net/ But my department hired a Windows guy and I let my setup breakdown. You have to know quite a bit about linux and networking to set it up in the first place. You boot from a linux CD and it sets up a Windows network installation on the target machine. It reboots the target machine and the Windows network install begins automatically. Very slick. The main problem (besides taking quite a bit of setup) is that you have to keep building a new linux kernel for the boot CD to support your hardware. Eventually, that got to be too much to maintain. Also, I don't think it works for Vista. There is still quite an active support community. At one point I did dozens of installs a day using this system. I could get an install started in about 2 minutes and I'd have a fresh Windows install complete with dozens of packages in about 30 minutes. It didn't matter what the hardware profile was as long as it could boot from a linux CD. So that was really sweet but when my department hired a Windows guy, I stopped maintaining it. He uses ghost. But from what I understand, you have to have a different image for every different hardware profile. That seems even harder than what I was doing. But it's his baby now. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave" <dave.mehler@gmail.com> To: "'Blind sysadmins list'" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Tuesday, August 12, 2008 11:17 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Installing jfw9 during a windowsunattendedsetup?
Hi, Ok, thanks. Where do you get NVDA, what speech does it use commandset, etc. And how do you do the unattended install? I like free, and i like ease and i like speech better than narrator on startup so this would be great. For my unattended installs i'm either doing things manually or using nlite. Thus far it's working, i'd definitely like to get other apps installed automatically is there a list of apps i can install unattended? Thanks. Dave.

I haven't tried it since jfw 7.1 but the silent install was broken as of version 6.4. Maybe they fixed it for 8 and/or 9. Here is a link to a Freedom Scientific knowledgebase article about doing a silent install for jfw 5: http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_support/BulletinView.asp?QC=856
I can verify that it used to work. I think it worked for jaws 6.1 but don't quote me on that. For a long time, I had my unattended install install an old version of jaws just so I could have it. But I eventually switched to installing nvda. It's way, way easier to install during an unattended install and it's free.
PS: Which unattended installation system are you using?

Hello, Might be slightly O.T so please respond privately if necessary. I'm doing work with a custom windows xp pro unattended setup. I'm wanting to install applications along with the setup, one of which is jfw9. I've heard it's possible to do a silent install, but not sure how to do this, nor even if it is possible to package the file so it would install. Thanks. Dave.
