Hi, I have used Spinrite before, but not with a screen reader, since I have some remaining vision. The program is run from a bootable CD or flash drive, and is based on Free DOS, and has no support for sound cards, network devices, or anything else besides keyboards, basic VGA graphics support, and of course hard drives. However, if you happen to have an old hardware speech synthesizer, and a DOS screen reader, and are aware of a method to get them working under a DOS like environment, you may have some luck. As far as I am aware, Steve does have plans to get Spinrite updated for the 21st century, but he is currently working on getting his SQRL log in system completed, documented, and ready for adoption. Has anyone utilized the Spinrite drive check and repair utility? I heard about it from a Security Now podcast and wondered if it has been used by a screen reader user.
