Hi, Yeah like I say Synology is really the best, just be sure you know what you want to use it for and choose the right model. For example if you get an ARM model you may not be able to run containerised software. There used to be a chart on the site with what models could do what. The Play version is pretty capable on the box but they cut down the OS advanced features - for example I can't run containers on my model even though the CPU is up to it. I think next time I may go for the Plus model even though it is more expensive. Not trying to put you off but just look at what you want to do with it and make the choice accordingly. Hi,
I am a fan of Synology, but most of the NAS devices including Synology have hard to use web interfaces.
I would also recommend getting an Intel powered Synology device if possible, or one that runs containers, as it is then easier to extend the device. Also some Synology devices run a more cut down operating system, my 214Play being one of them. Some of them have a full Bash, mine doesn't, which makes it harder to work with on the command line.
Andrew.

Hi,
Yes most of the NASs support SSH. I don't know if the WD My Cloud does but i could check on monday. Our fire brigade has one of those My Cloud Mirror boxes. though i guess i don't want one of those. though they might be interesting for my parents for example. people who like beautiful things that need nearly no config and you can't change much. they also seem to bind the user to their wd servers.

The manufacturer's Web site suggests that it supports ssh, which should eliminate any accessibility problems.

Hi all, I plan to get myself a NAS. I am thinking of the Synology DS216J. What do you think?
We have QNAP NASs in the office which are unfortunately not very accessible with their Web GUI. We also have 2 old Buffalo DiskStations which still work though they are very old. their interface is also pretty accessible.
I pretty like Synology's interface which you can also check out online: https://www.synology.com/en-us/dsm/live_demo
Great when you can have a look at interfaces.
Greetings, Simon
