Hi Billy Thanks for that info. I agree, the best way is to have the physical equipment in front of me, as in the real world. If no other solutions are found that might be the option I go with. I’m glad you don’t think I’ll have any problems in the industry, that’s one of the reasons it is attractive to me, because especially with the Cisco stuff it’s all CLI based. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find the screen reader mode switch, we’re on Packet Tracer V8 now. I’m hoping they haven’t removed it. All the best Luke

Hi Luke,
If I remember correctly, Packet Tracer use to have a check box to enable screen reading mode, but I never messed with it back then as I was a high partial and had access to my own lab. If you are really wanting to get good at it, I recommend the hands on approach vs. virtual as you will learn where the physical cables attach and get a better grip on what it is you are doing. You can find these labs on Ebay completely assembled with all cables and everything you need for CCNA, CCNP, and CCIE. I am now primarily a JAWS/NVDA user.
I will share that you wont have any trouble doing the work as I do it in a really large environment. I also do consulting gigs for government agencies such as a recent long distance microwave network.
If I can be of any further assistance, please feel free to let me know.
Best,
Billy L. Irwin Sr. Network Technician Clemson University

Hello All
Hope you’re well.
I’m half way through a degree with the Open University and as part of that I am completing the CCNA course from Cisco.
This course includes using labs in the network simulator software Packet Tracer. sadly, as far as I can tell, this is a drag-and-drop interface and isn’t usable enough with a screen reader for me to complete the labs independently.
Does anyone know of a solution or work around to this? Has anyone ever done the CCNA before that can give me any advice? The NetAcad content itself is mostly fine, and in my opinion, works best with NVDA, it’s just the labs that are causing me problems. And of course, what with everything still be in virtual, I don’t think there is a possibility of me being able to physically complete the labs with Cisco equipment and instructors.
Thanks for any help you can give. Kind regards Luke
