Use the run as option from your desktop when you want to run the RSAT tools
with higher priviledges, or install Window-Eyes on the jumpbox.

The network is like this ... there are child domains, a couple of them, and
we all run normal non-administrative accounts. To avoid having to run the
RSAT as admin under a non administrative account (I've heard from some that
it can't be and from some that it can) at least, on my friend's domain,
which is the primary, he does all of his management from a jumpbox on the
network (logs into a box built specifically for management and then hits up
RSAT from there), but the main difference between my child domain and the
rest of them is that I'm the only one of us who actually uses a screen
reader full time. The other members of the group are pretty much all
magnification and fully sighted users. I'm actually starting to believe that
his method of management is simply a preference, nothing more. Since we're
not doing VDI all across the network ... thank God.

Hi,

You'll have to explain the issue a bit more as you've lost me there.  You
can install RSAT on your own machine and use the tools with whatever
priviledges you have been granted.  For example, I used to install it on
helpdesk machines so they could unlock and change passwords in Active
Directory as I gave them access to do that for relevant OUs.

Okay then. On my network, at least, I'll then need to find another solution
... my friend only uses VDI because he thinks that you can't run RSAT as
admin when the account he's logged into is not admin.

Actually, I kind of got it to work a very long time ago.  I published both
Window-Eyes and Calculator, and was able to get Calculator to read, but
couldn't get any Window-Eyes hot keys to pass through, so it was basically
useless.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll definitely try that. Also, does 
this work for RemoteApp scenarios? I've never thought to try it, and 
the only clear instructions given for that type of thing are for Citrix 
Presentation Server.

I can echo this, I used RDP with WindowEyes in my last job a lot with
2012 R2.  It is a lot more stable than RDP support in JFW in my opinion.

       My experience is the 2008R2 instructions work on 2012R2 as 
well.  On the remote machine, the Window-Eyes synthesizer should be set 
to virtual terminal services, and on the local client the synthesizer 
should be set to the actual synthesizer.  Also on the local client, the 
Window-Eyes virtual channel should be enabled.  If you've done that and 
it isn't working, I'd open a ticket with AISquared support and see if 
they can figure out the problem.

I find it annoying because when following the instructions, at least 
for
Windows Server 2012R2 VMs and servers, I can't get the RDP connection 
to talk through the virtual channel at all... I change the voice to the 
virtual Terminal Services synth, and nothing happens; it will toggle, 
but won't start talking. I'm probably doing something incorrectly, 
considering the instructions only cover up to 2008R2. Also, my friend's 
got VDI/Remote App set up, and I'm trying to figure how we can get 
Window-Eyes working so that I can manage resources on his network to

Just curious, how do you find the Window-Eyes RDP implementation to be
flakey?  I've ran it on a world wide network with many different kinds 
of connections and the only real problem I've had is that if the RDP 
connection drops and is reestablished, Window-Eyes stops talking 
through the virtual channel until I restart it.  I do find that 
annoying and am not sure why AISquared hasn't fixed it, but for all I 
know that's an RDP issue and not Window-Eyes related.

regard to your comment in terms of JAWS really being the only screen 
reader supported in employment scenarios, that's so dang true, and also 
it's too dang unfortunate. Window-Eyes does work well in some cases, 
though it's implementation of RDP virtual channel is flaky at best.

No I think she means real RDP/Citrix support in NVDA.  And if that's

case I agree with her.  I once looked at the RDP programming guide and 
I don't think it'd be too difficult to implement, again this comes from 
a non-coder so take it with a block of salt.  I don't know about Citrix 
ICA but since ICA is based on the RDP protocol I'd think it be 
relatively similar.  I think the problem is that NVDA really doesn't 
have much of a foothold in the places where most blind people are 
employed, most of that market is still JAWS so it just hasn't been a 
high priority for the developers.  The sad part is I think NVDA could 
blow JAWS or Window-Eyes away in a VDI environment if it was 
implemented properly because of its base design, so it could solve some
employment problems for the blind but hey.

I have not had a chance to play with these at all but from what 
I've
read I agree that this is mainly designed for web applications, and the 
primary thing MS is thinking of when they build this are the big cloud 
providers out there who have to worry about tenant isolation at a far 
greater level than most companies.  I'm not saying it won't have other 
uses, but that's what I see the main use being.  I could see an 
argument for things like Citrix and RDS as well but I'm guessing that 
will
come later.
And just as to VDI, my own personal view, its a nightmare because we're 
letting it be one, I think with the right attention it could be solved 
with a reasonable amount of effort.

Hopefully, considering Microsoft's new fantastic stance on the 
subject of accessibility, this new marvelous technology will be 
taken into account. I'd think it would work, because the 
application deployed in the container would more than likely be 
web applications. At the current moment, I've got all web sites 
on my IIS server deployed on one server, though I eventually want 
to make each site run under its own container to achieve even 
greater isolation. Do you folks see any potential issues with 
accessibility with screen readers? You think it's going to invoke 
the
same nightmare that VDI does?
