For your VPS, you’ll either want to learn the CLI and use it (most of us do that, it isn’t that hard), or use Windows Server with the GUI. You could learn on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Cent OS, whatever. As far as providers go, I would recommend Vultr. They’re cheap and have an accessible control panel. About Vinux, the short answer is don’t. Just don’t. Very old, hacked-together versions of the OS that break when you update really aren’t a good idea, especially for a new user learning how to administer a system for the first time. Bill
