Hi: I don't know about fresh installs of Windows 8, but using Workstation 8.0 I was able to do a fully unattended install of Windows 7. I then immediately upgraded that to the developer preview and that's working fine. My guess is VMWare won't support an easy install of Windows 8 until MS makes it final as the format of the unattended files VMWare generates could change. There's no point of them supporting a prerelease. In the mean time, try the upgrade route.
