Hi,
Look at Kali Linux instead of Backtrack, Backtrack is now replaced by Kali Linux.
Kali is based on Debian, if it uses the stock Debian kernel it should have Speakup as well - enable at the boot prompt.
Andrew.

Just agreeing with what others have already said.
Orca will work very well in Gnome and to a large extent in the gnome
terminal as well. For a lot of console work, i recommend speakup.
Your best bet would be to get a distribution that has speakup already
compiled into the kernel. That's still a tricky business.
I have been working with Linux via PuTTY for over a year now. I don't
remember when I actually used Gnome last. How are they getting on with
the Orca project? I realise I'm asking a question on another persons
thread here so feel free to provide a kicking as necessary. and / or
respond off list if you prefer.

Orca is the screen reader for the linux graphical user interface. It works pretty well. It's pretty much all I ever use. I sometimes still use voiceover but I do 99% of my work with orca.

Hello,
I will be taking a computer security class in the fall. I am trying to do some research for the class and have come up with a couple of things that could present problems. They are nmap, Backtrack Linux and Orca. Does any one have experience with any of the above software packages?
