I don't think you can assume that if window-eyes works then jaws will work too. Jaws has something called the video intercept manager which I believe is unique to jaws. That's the component that won't install in server2. I saw a blog post that seemed to say that the video intercept manager would install correctly if you use vmware workstation. But it wasn't 100% clear and I am looking for confirmation of that before I continue. I cannot convert to window-eyes. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ryan Shugart" <rshugart@pcisys.net> To: "Blind sysadmins list" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Friday, May 29, 2009 2:12 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] upgrading from vmware server2 to workstation
John: I use Workstation 6.5.2 daily with no issues. I use Window-eyes and it runs beautifully, no issues with the video drivers so long as VMWare Tools is installed and working. I run Workstation on Windows, but the VM formats are the same between Server and Workstation. You shouldn't have any issues. Ryan

I'm thinking of giving vmware workstation a try because I've heard that jaws works well in a virtual machine if you have vmware workstation. I currently use the free product, server2. Jaws does not work well with a Windows virtual machine created with server2. Specifically, the jaws cursor doesn't work. I believe that's because the video intercept driver won't install.
Anyway, here are my questions:
1. Has anyone used jaws in a virtual machine in vmware workstation? Does the jaws cursor work? 2. I believe I need to have either fedora or Red Hat, not debian, on my machine to use vmware workstation. Is that correct? 3. Can I backup my server2 virtual machines and then restore them after I've upgraded to workstation?
