You might have a point. I'll see how it goes. It's accessing the file server over a 10GB link and the server is being decommissioned so as a lot of people hit it, the same group of people will no longer use it for file access so it should in theory balance out. At the time I was trying to keep it a bit simple. I already had exactly what I needed in the file to indicate that the computer had already run the script so I didn't think that adding something else into the mix would be efficient. Solved. I have written a script to automate a lot of the steps that I mentioned in my original Email. I ran the first migration using this method this morning and it went flawlessly. The users are delighted and I've done it with absolutely no down time.
