Yeah voiceview and the tts engine could have a little bit of an overhaul i guess. Responsiveness seems not to be amazons goal. Would be nice if they just would put talkback on there. And add a second engine which might be more responsive. Haven't tried to put espeak ng or something on that. But for a little bit movies, music, book listening it is fine. I have a Fire HD 8 2018.

You don't even need to sideload the Google store if you don't want to.

The accessibility in my view is kinda sketchy, ie, sloooooow!!!! & the voices leave something to be desired, but, as you say, it's almost a throwaway.

I don't use it personally, but I do have to help my granddaughter w/her Kids' Fire, ie, I set it up, & I periodically need to render assistance, so I am familiar w/the accessibility aspects.

It's quite a bit bigger than your ipod, though, & that you might find problematic.

They have a talking books program that is really outstanding. I don't know for sure if their app would run on Amazon's version of Android but at those prices, I have little to lose. Don't forget, with Talkback, you can also label unlabelled buttons, if they are standard buttons.

You can do this with iOS as well.

Hi John,

I am using Android phones now for 4 and a half years. I find the OS completely accessible. According to many its as accessible as iOS.

Some apps might have some unlabeled buttons but i guess that problem exists with iOS as well.

I don't use braille so i can't say anything about that.

I've always owned both an iPod Touch and an iPhone. The reason is that I don't want to carry my phone around all the time. So I am doing yard work, home repairs, working out or whatever, getting my iPod wet and dirty and wearing down the battery. Meanwhile, my iPhone stays safe and fully charged. But recently, I've gotten more and more irritated with Apple. For example, they got rid of the feature in the MacOS iTunes app that allows you to sync your music library with your IOS devices. So now I no longer have a way to get all the music I ripped from my old CD-ROMS to my iPod Touch.

I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for an Android device that is similar to the iPod Touch. How accessible is Android these days? I'm not too worried about getting used to a new operating system. But as a long time IOS user, am I going to be disappointed with the accessibility of Android? - ### John G.
