When I last did this (a very long time ago), growisofs was necessary to produce the ISO 9660 image file, which could then be written to the media with Wodim.
wodim was also listed, but there's a caveat against burning DVD's, which I will definitely need to do, and Blu-ray Discs, in which I'm not interested anyway.
From memory, there's a separate tool for DVD writing, but you may still need growisofs to create the image in the first place.
These are command line tools, so accessibility shouldn't be a concern.
