Hi, Another solution to is that some of the Netgear and other routers have a bandwidth monitor function on them which by no means gives you as much details as for example Cacti, but will get the job done for this specific scenario. It also doesn't require an extra box. I know that some top end consumer routers support snmp so I could use this in combination with some form of monitoring tool on another box, but mine doesn't so it's not an option. The solution I was thinking of was to turn off dhcp on my router, configure a box with 2 nic cards and bridge them using ics - one that connects to the router with a static and one that runs dhcp and is also connected to the router, there by forcing all the trafic on the network to go through my box. I know that products like ISA can do this, but this is just a home environment so I'm thinking installing something like 2008 to get ISA would be a bit overkill. We're moving to an ISP where we'll have a limited amount of transfer a month and whilst I don't really want a big brother type environment where I can see exactly what everyones doing, I would like something that I can use for a couple of months so that I can get a rough idea of how much we use and what devices are responsible for the bulk of our usage. Does anyone have any suggestions? All thoughts are welcome. Cheers, Ben. _______________________________________________ Blind-sysadmins mailing list Blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org http://lists.hodgsonfamily.org/listinfo/blind-sysadmins
