It'll be fine. 64-bit chips will run in 32-bit mode, they Just don't use LM capabilities and have trouble with getting at >4gb of ram without using Huge TLB or page remapping. You can get at >4gb of ram however windows won't because you need to page it in and out and that is a pain. Linux can do it but they recommend 64-bit for >4gb ram. If you're doing recovery work might as well just use 32-bit grml and ignore 64-bit stuff you don't need it here. You do if you want to check large xfs file systems and need access to lots of ram to do so. On 29/09/2012 6:40 AM, David Mehler wrote:
Hello,
Does anyone know what would happen, if I'll have a ploom of smoke, if I try to boot a 64 bit machine with a 32 bit iso?
I've got a machine that came in and can't remember if it's a 32 bit or 64 bit system. It's running xp home and it does have an Athlon64 processor in it single core. I need to back it up prior to reinstalling it, and was wanting to use grml for that, without knowing if it's 32 or 64 bit I didn't want it to have issues.
Thanks. Dave.
