Oh that sounds nice. What is the package called? I could possibly take
this on as a pet project when I start. It may be easier to get this slipped
in before anything larger happens as part of ITIL, due to budgets.

I have set up a web and email based help desk for my own company at
http://helpdesk.computersupportservices.ie/ with the email address
helpdesk@computersupportservices.ie
This works quite well. It sends out alerts to remind me when cases are over
due and the web UI is very accessible. More importantly, I can mess about
with as much as I want because it's an open source package installed on one
of my own servers.
