I don't know how Speakup is normally configured in Ubuntu. Try adding speakup_soft to a new file called /etc/modules-load.d/speakup.conf, then systemctl enable espeakup && systemctl start espeakup -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of David Mehler Sent: Saturday, November 25, 2017 10:34 AM To: blind-sysadmins <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10 in place update breaks speech Hello, I've got a Ubuntu 17.04 vm working it was installed with speech so when it comes up I get speech. I did an update from 17.04 to 17.10 and lost speech. On investigating, apparently espeakup was removed, and speakup_soft was not loaded with the new kernel. I've looked in /etc/default/grub for the module load line didn't see it. Can anyone tell me how to reenable speakup_soft? Thanks. Dave. _______________________________________________ Blind-sysadmins mailing list Blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org https://lists.hodgsonfamily.org/listinfo/blind-sysadmins
