[Blind-sysadmins] How does one get a Knoppix rescue system to talk?

Hello, I've got two questions on Knoppix in this case v8.1.0. First, how does one get it speaking in both GUI and CLI environments? Second, what utilities does it have for secure disk erasure? Thanks. Dave.
