My story is the same as John's story. When I wired my house, I used a friend to help me with crimping the ends of the cables. Also friends are good for sharing the cost of a role of cat-5 or cat-6. Yeah, I don't know how a blind person could put the ends on network cables. Maybe somebody has figured out a way but I would think that would require sighted assistance. But you can't always buy cables. I ran my own network cables in my house, fished them up through the walls and all that. But when it came time to put the ends on, I had to hire someone to do it. Except for putting the ends on the cables, I built a gigabit network in my house. I ran the cables myself. It was kind of funny actually. I was walking around with this giant drill with a drill bit about 2 feet long. That made my wife a little nervous. "What are you going to do with that?" she asked. I had to drill through the ceiling of the basement to get the cables into the first floor rooms. But I measured very carefully and never drilled a hole where it didn't belong. And now we have a gig network in our house. ----- Original Message ----- From: "White, Matt" <matt.bsa@wh1t3.net> To: <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Tuesday, July 12, 2011 10:53 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] network cables, do you make your own?
Cutting and crimping, no problem. Getting colors lined up, forget it. Monoprice is my go-to source for decent, cheap, cables.

Hi listers,
ok, if this is inappropriate, you have all the right to boot me off this list. But I write this because I'm just burning with curiosity, I have no other visually impaired person to ask, and wanted to know if any visually impaired people can do this in someway or another.
So, do you make your own ethernet cables?
I'm doing N+ and I know we'd have a problem when it comes to putting the colours in the right pairs but what about cutting, crimping etc?
Unfortunately I'm studying this thing by myself so no practical assistance here. Hence one of the many reasons for asking.
