[Blind-sysadmins] recovering data from linux hard drive

All, I need to try to recover data from a hard drive after its been reformateed. It was a linux x3 file system and it's been reformateed as x3. I find bzillions of tools that claim they can deal with that. But does any one have any experience with any of these tools?
