It's a bit of a grey area, but it's possible. So long as you buy the os theres really nothing wrong with it imo considering that if you like the os you might end up buying a iMac or other apple device. On 06/03/2011, David Mehler <dave.mehler@gmail.com> wrote:
Hi,
Thanks. I didn't think it was possible to install OS x on a pc machine.
Thanks. Dave.

The G4 is not intel based.
A hackintosh is when you take a standard Intel based machine and install OSX.

Hi,
Forgive my ignorance, but i've got two probably dumb mac questions. First is the processor in a G4 intel based and what is a Hackintosh?
Thanks. Dave.

I thought the g4's only went upto 1.4 and anything after that would be a g5, but I could be wrong. The powermacs always seemed a little bit expencive in my eyes, but we are deeling with apple after all. As far as pricing goes, just do a completed items search on ebay and see what sort of prices you get. I just looked and the average powermac at 1.6GHZ w 1GB of ram is going for around £150. I wouldn't really pay that much myself, but that seems to be the going price. Anything below a intel cpu won't be able to take snow leopard or the new lion thats coming out soon, but you should be able to get a good grasp of the concepts using leopard to diside if you want a new one or not.
Have you considered slapping a hackintosh together instead? You could probably use some components that you already have and then if you don't like osx, you won't have wasted any money.

Hi,
Thanks. I'm on the budget plan and am wanting to learn the Mac and voice over. Would this Mac be a good starter Mac?
Thanks. Dave.

Hi,
I wouldn't pay much at all. A new Mini could be had for 5 - 600 new and that has a much faster processor.
The G4 I think was measured in MHZ something like 4 - 600. It's basically an old RISC processor.
