hello friends: I need to use remote desktop or any another good remote software, to manage and fix computer via jaws. how? can I use in mine jaws or NVDA and use the narrator on another? to transfer audio? I think as a help desk will not able to run jaws on all company computers to able to manage, but narrator is found in all XP and windows 7 by default. thanks beero
Hi, Firstly, can you please make sure you post from the address you subscribe from? Currently I am approving all your posts. I did mention this to you before. As to your question, is this in a helpdesk situation or on a personal level with just two computers? If the later, and you can get the demo version of Jaws installed, then Tandem will do what you want. If a work situation, then the best product for this currently is RAM from Serotek http://serotek.com/, but it depends on exactly what you want to do on the remote end and how often you want to do it. If your just after a remote command prompt, I like psexec - the only requirement is that the admin shares are enabled on the computer that your wanting to connect to - no client software or anything like that. Having said this, this may not be ideal in all situations since I'm not sure how much it does in the way of encrypting packets. On 05/05/2010, Jackie McBride <abletec@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi, Anything like this or Powershell really needs to be used in a domain environment where the user running the scripts has admin access to the remote system. That brings me onto another point I have been wondering about: Those of you who admin in such an environment, do you have your own user account and give it privileges, or do you log in under a helpdesk account when you want to do this stuff? That brings me onto another point I have been wondering about: Those of you who admin in such an environment, do you have your own user account and give it privileges, or do you log in under a helpdesk account when you want to do this stuff?
Andrew.

If your just after a remote command prompt, I like psexec - the only requirement is that the admin shares are enabled on the computer that your wanting to connect to - no client software or anything like that.
Having said this, this may not be ideal in all situations since I'm not sure how much it does in the way of encrypting packets.

Hi,
Firstly, can you please make sure you post from the address you subscribe from? Currently I am approving all your posts. I did mention this to you before.
As to your question, is this in a helpdesk situation or on a personal level with just two computers? If the later, and you can get the demo version of Jaws installed, then Tandem will do what you want. If a work situation, then the best product for this currently is RAM from Serotek http://serotek.com/, but it depends on exactly what you want to do on the remote end and how often you want to do it.

Hi Jackie, I've been looking into powershell as screen reader RDS isn't always practical. EG. JFW with it's stability issues in a corporate network, Window Eyes requires from what I can gather that you either need to have a demo of it on every machine, or have a Citrix package built. I was therefore thinking Powershell might be the way to go. There's various examples of this all over the net, here's just one. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2007.05.powershell.aspx Barry -----Original Message----- From: blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Jackie McBride Sent: Wednesday, May 05, 2010 1:16 AM To: Blind sysadmins list Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] connect remotely? Hello, I'm having problems with a number of applications and I'm hoping one of you can advise me. VRanger: This program seems completely stupid. Ok. it provides a great service and it's simple enough but Jaws completely hates the interface. Is it any better with Window eyes or any other screen reader? Guess what? It's now my responsibility. And I cant use the interface at all! It refuses to read. The DelDell Remote switch software: This thing is the same. It doesn't read at all. Even when I use the Jaws cursor it doesn't read. I know I can use the switch web UI and that's actually not too bad but it would be much more conveenient if I could use the same tool. Disk keeper. This is a great little tool. It's alol accessible excluding what is possibly it's most important feature. The scheduling. Do any of you have experience with this? Is there any way I can manually edit this schedule using config files? I'm looking at the moment but I haven't found anything. WSUS is all right when you get use to it but looking at reports is a bit messy and must be done with the Jaws cursor. Also, it's very slow when navigating through it with the keyboard. Has anyone customized Jaws to work better with it? Data protecter. Well, there's nothing that can be done with that really. Jaws scripts would be great to fix the tab order but aside from that it's not bad. Do any of you use it? If so, do you have any simple scripts made that fixes the problems? Also, I've emailed FS to ask them to fix the script association so the audible scripts didn't load when Data protecter starts. It messes up keyboard navigation. VSphear: That program isn't all that bad but a lot of it isn't very accessible. For example, the reports and charts that are generated. Also, the tab control for changing between pages doesn't respond to conventional windows keyboard commands. To access each page you need to use the jaws cursor. I've spoken about Dell open manage before. I've resigned my self to the fact this just isn't going to work with Jaws. It puts me in a difficult position but I@m getting use to that. If any of you have suggestions as to how I can improve access to these applications I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Would anyone be interested in entering into a fund to make core administration tools more accessible? It would help pay for a Jaws scripter to fix a lot of the annoying issues that we encounter with these applications on a daily basis. By the way, I've racked 4 1950 servers in the past few days in full racks. I've found it reasonably easy actually. There are a few things that cause me some hastle but nothing that cant be managed compared to my constant software problems. For example: Putting the plate on at the bottom of the server just under the cable tie arm. Oh, and putting the server onto the rack rails without anyone standing on the other side to help match up the other three slots. Yep, that can be a challange. I'm loving the new job but I'm very tired of all the accessibility problems.
Hi, Using WSUS with the Jaws cursor most of the time, I find the access in Windows 7 is actually slightly improved when looking through the list of updates/computers etc, reports are still as bad. Worse in Windows 7 is the AD stuff, it doesn't track the cursor movement correctly in Jaws. That covers ADUC/DSA.mmc, DNS, DHCP etc. I wrote here what I do with OpenManage, connect to the remote agent via the web interface on https://ip.of.server:1311. Thanks. I am not sure this is what you want but I just configured a Del 2970 with the linux command line version of Dell omsa. I guess it won't hurt to explain how I did it even if you're not interested. Somebody browsing the archives might find this info useful. 1. Boot a live grml CD and start speech. Documentation on booting grml with speech can be found at the grml web site. 2. Add the source for the dellomsa package to the apt sources. To do this, edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list and add a line like this: deb ftp://ftp.sara.nl/pub/sara-omsa dell6 sara Run 'apt-get update' 3. Install the dellomsa package. Run 'apt-get install dellomsa'. 4. Run omconfig to configure your system. Documentation on using the command line omconfig program can be found at the Dell web site. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Darragh.OHeiligh@Oireachtas.ie> To: "Blind sysadmins list" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Wednesday, May 05, 2010 4:12 AM Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] Disk keeper, VRanger, VSphear, Data protecter,Dell open manage and WSUS.

Darragh The only two of these I can speak to are VSphere and WSUS, and pretty much all I can say is they work the same under Window-Eyes. Both are usable, but highly innificent. VMWare's products in general are just not designed with accessibility in mind (they can join the club unfortunately.) Window-Eyes gives me a lot of OSM problems under any OS later than XP and GW-Micro has no clue why since they aren't willing to set up a VMWare environment and play. So, we do what we can. I actually installed the VMWare Data Recovery plugin yesterday and that's so bad accessibilitywise its not even funny. So with both of these, they're useable with screen readers, but not efficient. _______________________________________________ Blind-sysadmins mailing list Blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org http://lists.hodgsonfamily.org/mailman/listinfo/blind-sysadmins
There are jaws scripts available for the old vmware infrastructure client. I don't know if they've been updated for vsphere. I don't use the Windows client to admin our vmware servers any more. I use the esx command line interface. It might be a good thing to know about the esx command line anyway since then you can admin your vmware cluster from anywhere. One of our virtual machines went down a few months ago and I restarted it from home. It was pretty slick. Of course, that may be possible with the Windows client too. I don't know. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ryan Shugart" <rshugart@pcisys.net> To: "Blind sysadmins list" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Wednesday, May 05, 2010 9:14 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] Disk keeper, VRanger, VSphear, Data protecter, Dell open manage and WSUS.

We've just purchased and started using RIM which has worked quite well so far. Only been using it a few days, but 4 different sessions worked properly and had very little delay. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ryan Shugart" <rshugart@pcisys.net> To: "Blind sysadmins list" <blind-sysadmins@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Monday, May 03, 2010 6:59 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-sysadmins] connect remotely?
Out of curiosity has anyone here actually set up and used RAM? We're looking at it right now where I work, for helpdesk situations, and while the product looks good we're running into quite a few issues with it, particular when dealing with machines in remote offices, the connections just aren't that stable. Hi,
Firstly, can you please make sure you post from the address you subscribe from? Currently I am approving all your posts. I did mention this to you before.
As to your question, is this in a helpdesk situation or on a personal level with just two computers? If the later, and you can get the demo version of Jaws installed, then Tandem will do what you want. If a work situation, then the best product for this currently is RAM from Serotek http://serotek.com/, but it depends on exactly what you want to do on the remote end and how often you want to do it.
Andrew.

RAM makes the remote user accept the connection. There are ways to have the connection automatically accept on the remote end, but so far those haven't been working properly for me, and isn't how I'd use it most of the time anyway. My understanding is RIM works in an environment using Serotek's servers at all times, RAM is for a corperate network where you have your own server.
