Hi. Doing a programming course from http://www.upskilled.edu.au and using http://www.lynda.com. Now part of the security cluster of the course, certificate iv programming, is using a server, and got windows server 2012 r2 essentials. And have got virtual box, which I say, is very jaws friendly, the main interface. Version 5.0, must have got better. So. Can I install jaws, nvda, window-eyes, and use the server? And in virtual box, is it windows enter or windows u to bring up narrator.thanks. Ps: any other tips, tricks, tweeks to make it more accessible.
I have very little experience with Windows Server but will try to give you some ideas. I don't think Windows Server has sound enabled by default so you will need to make sure that's working before Narrator or any screen reader speech will work. You may be able to get limited information on what's happening by using NVDA or JAWS OCR feature on the Virtual Box window. When I tried Virtual Box some time ago, I couldn't find an easy way to switch back to my host machine from the guest. I haven't tried it lately though. VMWare Player may be another option if you find Virtual Box isn't accessible. I'm not sure what command brings up narrator. If you are logged in, you can probably start it by using Windows r for the run dialog and entering narrator. If you're at the logon screen windows r likely won't work. Keep in mind using JAWS on a virtual machine will use an activation, and it's possible that changing the virtual hardware for the machine would require reactivation. You may want to try NVDA or Window-Eyes first or be prepared to contact Freedom Scientific to reset your activations if necessary. The NVDA remote add-on was just released recently. If you're able to get logged in and get files on the machine such as with a flash drive, and the machine has network connectivity, you may be able to run a version of NVDA that automatically connects to a remote server on startup and then connect to it from the host machine to control it before you have audio working on the server. I recently notice my local public library gives access to linda.com. Do you find the courses accessible? I've been wondering about online material to learn about Windows server and am curious if this may be accessible. On 2015-07-11 7:35 PM, Marvin Hunkin wrote:
