Hi folks, I’m joining an ICT team where they’re about to buy in several new laptops to add to our network. I’ve not gotten a chance to see the setup yet but was wondering if any particular software is used for cloning and rollout in enterprise environments, what the access implications are etc. From a home user point of view, I’ve set up win7 machines without eyes to help, using narrator then installing JFW or whatever. One would assume some form of unattended installation takes place for a larger number of systems. It’ll be win 7 of some description, so any advice or input anyone has would be helpful; especially if I can get in before they have firmed up their procedures so I can build in access from the ground up. Cheers, Sean.
Here we use Norton Ghost to put the corporate image onto new systems. it is possible to create a boot CD that automatically installs the image. If you are feeling creative you can have a DOS text to speech program load automatically, but you will need a serial synthesizer and a lot of new systems don't come with a serial port. Although there are USB to serial adaptors I find those do not work as easily and reliably as the USB to parallel adaptors; go figure. -----Original Message----- From: Blind-sysadmins [mailto:blind-sysadmins-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Sean Randall Sent: Wednesday, June 05, 2013 9:00 AM To: Blind sysadmins list Subject: [Blind-sysadmins] system rolout Hi folks, I'm joining an ICT team where they're about to buy in several new laptops to add to our network. I've used both SCCM 2007 and 2012 for system role out and I've used Ghost as well. None are perfect because they all use a Win PE environment to get started in my experience but SCCM is certainly better in almost every respect. Of course, SCCM is a system deployment and provisioning tool. Ghost is an Image capturing and distribution tool.
